With the season nearly finish and will starting getting bored before start of new season With the gap before new season in August with the start of world cup start on 12 June 2014,which first team 11 and subs would you pick and also how far England will go in this world cup competition
Should get out of group...anything else would be a complete failure. Truthfully, I want our lads to do well and enjoy themselves, but I'm thinking ahead to the European Cup.
Should implies we are favourites to get out of the group. Not the case this year. I think we will get out of the group but I think Italy and Uruguay are considered to be favourites to qualify.
Perhaps I should rephrase...a team like England should be should always get into the next round. I'm prepared to be blasé about our chances this year...which will probably mean that England will play above themselves, get us all excited and filling our shopping trollies with booze and flags, then crash and burn.
I for one, am really looking forward to the group stage of this World Cup. It's been a fun and fascinating year, with several of our players (as well as others elsewhere) demonstrating that there are some good alternatives to bad old England, and that there is even more potential for the future. It's also been the year when Luis Suarez happened, even more so than last year. He's almost single-handedly (imo) won the title for Liverpool. You could possibly argue that Liverpool have also has Sturridge, Gerrard, Sterling & Henderson. We have had Lambert, Rodriguez, Lallana and Shaw. I would say that the two teams are matched (and I'd much rather have ours) except when it comes to Suarez. So for me, apart from the inevitible under-performing England (unless the Southampton way comes through into the team), the qualifying group will really be a case of an improved and better looking England side than I've seen for a long time (depending on how brave Roy is) vs Luis Suarez. The plus is that he's been much less effective against the better sides this season. Let's just hope the climate doesn't ruin everything.
The only way England can possibly do well is if they play with heart and passion etc, as this is quite a poor England team, with probably no player that would get into the top nations teams. In saying that, at least the media aren't saying you are going to win it, so the might be more relaxed and not really have any pressure which could be a plus.
I think we'll qualify fairly easily from the group. Drab 0-0 draw with Italy in oppressive conditions, then beat Uruguay (who, Suarez apart, are not all that) and Costa Rica. We'll have a relatively easy 2nd round (one from Colombia, Ivory Coast, Japan and Greece), which we have a decent change of winning, and that would be considered mission accomplished I think. Play without pressure or fear from then on and who knows? Obviously we're very unlikely to win it, but we've got some exciting players now who are in great form and could catch some people out.
We'll get stuffed on penalties in the QFs, obviously. No one will expect anything at first, we'll start slowly, somehow mug our way out of the group stages, something magic will happen for one game, we'll all start to believe, then our hearts will get broken in the cruelest way. Again. Still, if Adam, Rickie, and maybe even Luke are on the plane, it's all good.
Not quite. If 10 weeks is accurate he would be fit for the start of the tournament. Surely he won't be named anyway though, he hasn't done anything of note since October...
Oh yeah, not sure what went wrong with my maths there! 10 weeks until the end of the tournament, not the start
If they don`t win the league, what effect will that crushing anti-climax have to the confidence and mentallity of the Liverpool contingent ?
I was being ironic, if the Press are right we won't have any players left at all, let alone English........
