England have slipped to 15th in the latest Fifa rankings, their lowest position since failing to qualify for the 2008 European Championship. The drop of six places means Roy Hodgson's side are now below Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ivory Coast and Greece in the world rankings. The articles continues ..... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23176481 World top 10 (with June rankings) 1 - Spain (1) 2 - Germany (2) 3 - Colombia (7) 4 - Argentina (3) 5 - Netherlands (5) 6 - Italy (8) 7 - Portugal (6) 8 - Croatia (4) 9 - Brazil (22) 10 - Belgium (12) We are probably still too high in my opinion as every team we play seems to have better players than us. I'm surprised to see Colombia in 3rd place, when did they get to be so good? Memo to self, look outside occasionally.
We were in the top five just before the Euros, the criteria they use is really a bit of a joke. Brazil were 22nd before the Confed Cup win. I'd say we were barely top twenty at present...
The bizarre makeup of the top countries, which includes Columbia and Belgium, makes it lose its meaning for me. Is it put together based on the last tournament only?
Keep an eye out for Belgium, superb bunch of players. IMO dark horses for a Euro title in a few years
From someone on the outside looking in, methinks England will never achieve what we all believe they can achieve with a manager like Hodgson ............ too soft, no backbone, non risk taker, etc. I reckon someone like Olly would really stir things up and have a real crack at it. How do you expect players to do the extra special things if the manager is boring. He needs to lead by example.
The rankings are/were a joke, Brazil were 22nd? We are nearly always in the top 10 despite not winning anything since 66? Colombia better than Argentina, Brazil, Holland and Italy?
This. Waste of time these rankings. England can beat anyone on their day and so can most International sides. (Well....not Scotland obviously)
Agree the rankings are pointless, everyone knows Spain, Germany, Italy and Brazil are the best. But can't agree that we can beat 'anyone on our day'. Last time we won a competitive match against a serious international side was v Argentina 2002 World Cup, from my (admittedly fragile) memory.
You're just jealous because mighty Bosnia is 14th The ranking is quite odd but they have a system for that so I doubt they make things up. Go Dragons
