Just seen a report on sky news that Harold has been quoted that you can't just hit it long and hope and that England can't play football and other countries have better coaching methods

Interesting statement that should provide a decent discussion.

As I understood it where we not knocking it long to Zamora when I last looked?, he didn't play our creative players with the ball

Has he lost it big time now?

It's true what he says though and he was probably working with what he had rather than what he wanted.

    It's on the BBC now

Difficult to see whether he's utterly deluded as to his own ability or just a shameless self-promoter. Either way he's not concentrating on the Rs.

    Time to stfu.

2 points out of the last 27 playing dreadful, aimless football, relentless self publicity and own arse covering, miserable demeanour and negativity re players, owners and 'difficulty' of everything, boasting about not needing to work and threatening to walk if he doesn't get his own way on everything may have something to do with it Bob.

Are you still associated with Leeds? I see Colin has a right go at their academy staff in his book, what's the story?

I can to a certain extent Bob but as it looks like he is staying I will give him my backing. It certainly won't help matters if the fans don't get behind him and the team next season.

I agree with that Jack, and also what Harry says. I'm not too happy with what Harry did for us either, particularly his strange team selections, after a good start. But Spurs played good football under him, so there's no reason he can't do the same for us.

Negativity regarding players........ its very difficult to find any positives from them! So dont mind if he speaks his opinion. As regards threatening to walk, well harry cant be held accountable for the transfer policy when hughes and beard and rigg were wheeling and dealing.
Aimless football I cant argue too much with although the personel at his disposal werent up for much in terms of effort and commitment.
Covering his own arse is surely a natural thing to do in any given job. I personally dont think he has done much wrong. I would prefer the truth and not like it rather than bullshit that everything is fine!

You are of course right, I am allowing myself the luxury of letting off steam in this brief window of uncertainty. As soon as it is clear that he is staying there's no point in continuing to moan, though I will never rate him. And given that his salary is a multiple of every other NPC managers', we have a right to set out expectations very high.

He is also right about England, there is just a grim irony in hearing it from him, given the quality of what we turned out towards the end of the season.

Here's what I don't get - nearly all 'football people' would probably say the same thing. Trevor Brooking has been saying it for years. They have the models of Ajax and Barca on how to set this up - also Utd and Arsenal. But nothing seems to change, even though it is well within the power of 'football people' to implement. As usual its someone else's responsibility, very little personal accountability in this industry. Just do it, for christ's sake.

Just read an extract - essentially that the academy staff did not want the first team to do well, presumably because this would block progress of their players into the squad, and that when he and his coaches passed their offices after a win they all kept their heads down, but after a loss they were all chirpy and asking questions. Part of his 'problems at the core of the club' spiel I think.

Yes it is all very strange, everyone seems to know we can't hold onto the ball (and the U21s did the same) but no-one seems to do anything about it. It has been like this for years and years. Only under Hoddle did it briefly improve.

I will back Harold 100% when the season starts .. when the whistle blows I play to win ... however it's not yet started and now I am at freedom to talk about how bad he is at doing his job... Can't agree with Bob as our football was technically better under Hughes. Last season under Harold he started by closing up shop which I gave him credit for but i fully expected him to push on with some sort of football ... we were very poor and sorry that is his job to get things right and if he had we would still be in the league.

Harold stop moaning and show us your onions ... no excuses

Bob I also think as you know i rate these players and expect you could motivate them could you not? ... the whole Harold episode reeks of poor management to me

I don't think he is saying anything new here, haven't we just built a new England\Training\Academy site to start addressing some of this ?

We have been reliant on clubs bringing through players (as most countries) but it seems easier for them to rape other Countries of young player due to the way most countries have the contracts running and the money available here.

That's what was so disappointing. I was at the City game and we had become a lot more resilient. There was genuine effort that night and I came away very upbeat. The wheels came off after when we had to play a bit. Nelsen's departure played a significant part IMO as we lost one of our leaders.

In some ways alot of the national sides problems stem from the old club v country situation which for the last 10 years or so (probably more) has been exasperated by the amounts of money dished out by sky & the PL, therefore clubs are more reluctant to let their players go on international duty in case they get injured, they have also scoured the world for the best players to the detrement of bringing in lads from their youth academies due to the financial implications of failure in the PL.....it is a vicious circle and i don't think anyone at the FA or clubs has the know how or inclination to change matters.

Until there is a seed change at the very top of the administration and until sky's money is limited it will not change.....the national side will continue to be 2nd rate.
