    The problem for Nolan is that his style is more suited to the attacking CM, so he'd have to displace Lampard/Gerrard and not Barry. And of course he isn't fashionable, plays for Newcastle, etc

    Other than his goal yesterday he was quite shocking.

    I love him for his goal scoring ability but his general play is no where near the other players in his position unfortuantly.

    Like Cal said though, if he's used as an attacking mid with plenty of support then he's as good as anyone. He lacks pace but his eye for goal and workrate are top notch. He struggles when he plays deep due to lack of pace but when he goes forward his link-up play is class.

    He deserves a call-up more than any other uncapped English player right now but it's a shame Capello won't look outside of London.

    Totally agree, while you can't argue with his goalscoring ability and you just cannot leave that out the team, England prospects are not good because in all honesty he's just not good enough, Barton on the other hand has been THE best english midfielder in the country this season and definately deserves a call up.

    Joey Barton has been capped and has a criminal record. I agree, purely on footballing merit, he should walk into the England first team but I can't argue with any manager who thinks he's blown it.
