    When you look at the three forms of international cricket, why is it that England excel in two but are seemingly hopeless in the third?

    Twenty20:
    England are ranked at No.1 and are the reigning World Champions

    Tests:
    England are ranked at No.3. Trott and Cook are in the top 10 batsmen rankings. Swann, Anderson and Broad are all in the top 10 bowling rankings.

    ODI:
    England are ranked at No.5. After the World Cup they may well fall below Pakistan into 6th. No batsmen in the top 10 and only Graham Swann flies the flag for the bowlers.

    So why do you think it is that England fail at this particular discipline?

    I wasn't aware their was any T20 rankings but anyway;

    The squad England use for their T20Is, tests and ODIS are not the all the same. I dare also say that England has had the advantage of playing lots more tests recently in conditions that suit their style of play. England never really have taken limited overs seriously anyway.

    At the risk of sounding hideously optimistic, this win against SA could be what England need to kickstart them at the World Cup. As far as I remember, at the T20 world cup they were awful, and then a big win gave them the confidence to go on and win it.

    NB: I'm not saying England will win the World Cup...
