Could this be the start of the end for Gerrad?

He has been truely magical fro Liverpool over the years but is it time that we start to use him less frequently and move on?

I think so, sad but true. A legend whose time has come but Liverpool will continue and those that believe in Liverpool know that time for Liverpool will come again soon.

I still think he has a few years left in him yet and the magic to turn the fortunes of a game when all feels lost. He's only 32 and Giggs is still going at 37(?)! That said, I think though that come the summer we should start perhaps looking at a long-term solution to the CAM position with a new playmaker in mind as I feel Gerrard will be used more as a super sub than starting XI every single game.

Giggs has been lucky during his career.
Different types of players with Gerrad being more influential and combative hence more wear and tear.
Plus Giggs only used to play for the scum whereas Gerrad gave all for club and country.

We will get at least 3 more years form Gerrard in some form or another. As for buying a replacement I think we have one in Henderson.

Ryan Giggs retired from international football when he was 33 - Gerrard may quit international football at the same age ? So no Giggs didn't only play for United.

Giggs also had massive hamstring problems, players in different positions get different types of injuries.

Correct me if im wrong(which i know you will <grr>)but has'nt Giggs so far only made 64 appearences for Wales and 650+ games for United?

And did'nt the 'injuries' that prevented him playing for his country always heal by the following weekend?

Giggs lack of caps for Wales in more to do with Wales inability to qualify as much as anything else. Yes he pulled out of a fair few friendly games but I believe Gerrard has done this a fair bit aswell.

I'm not questioning Gerrard at all, I just think it's sad that someone tries to discredit Giggs as a means of making Gerrard seem better.

I'd say Wales failure to qualify is mainly due to Giggs' lack of caps

Why are we even talking about Giggs? This thread is about Gerrard!

The end "as we know it"? Well maybe. I doubt that we will see him try and play every position on the park during the same match again. I doubt that we will see the return of the deamon tackler of the younger days. I hope that we don't have to rely upon him as our talisman.

I do hope to see him return in a more mature role. Picking his opportunity to burst into the box; covering more than tackling;inspiring others with his presence. I still want to see those 40yd balls delivered with pinpoint accuracy and those rasping free kicks. I want to see him lead a new Liverpool concious of the spirit of Instabul but eager to write its own history. To do that we need the skills that Gerrard can bring to the game.

I think Gerrard has a couple of years yet but maybe in a different posistion to the all round midfield role, he will also be invaluable off the bench in say 3 years time as a cool head to see games out, bit like Gary Mac. Life in the old dog yet.
