Today marks the end of 32 years of channel four's horse racing coverage before ITV take over and I think they have a hard act to follow. I had a lump in my throat at the end of the last race but I spat it up and made sure my old mum had finished washing the dishes before plugging in the hoover for her. This helped to take my mind of things.

Can recall a late night show when Channel 4 was in its infancy where he remarked that the people of Liverpool should be thankful for having rich visitors pishing in their gardens and entrances on Grand National day. Many, many, many years ago we went down to Liverpool shortly after New Year's Day to watch Liverpool against Newcastle United. In the evening we visited one of the city's famous dancehall pick up joints. After having ten too many I decided it was time for my 'scratcher' so headed back to our B&B.
