Legends programme changes The Legends will not be returning to Real Radio and we understand that this news won’t be welcomed by some listeners, but we would like to explain the reasons for the changes we are making. When the show started more than a decade ago it was among only a handful of debate shows available to fans. Now this type of content is widely available whenever and wherever people want it on many different platforms, such as internet forums, fan sites, specialist tv and radio stations and social media. This has no doubt contributed to the gradual decline in audience to The Legends. In its place we will be introducing music led programming, consistent with the rest of the day’s output and of appeal to the widest audience. We would like to thank our sports presenters for their passion for the show and commitment to the station over the years and wish them the very best for the future. http://www.realradionortheast.co.uk/...-changes/33dd3
Legend became a very loose term over the last couple of years. Horswill and MacDonald were/are both pricks. The only member of the panel I had time for was Bernie. Good riddance to bad rubbish IMO.
Used to love it and listen with pure fury listening to callers who didn't know what the f they were talking about and the legends nodding along. Bernie was the only one who knew anything about what was going on at his club. McDonald was typical noocarsel and thought they were better than barca. And Horswill may as well have been wearing a black n white top most of the time. For me it died with Gatesy
A waste of air time..nothing but a bun fight stoked up by McDonald who has an over inflated opinion of himself. It was a decent show when it was a genuine discussion, but when Gates left (thanks to McDonald) the show turned into a pantomime.
I was waiting for someone to mention Gatesy. He held the show together and Slaven and Mac knew that deep down. Week in week out, the mags and the smog supporters respected Gatesy's balanced views and humour. Gatesy was huge in that show and it was never the same when he left, and the BBC must have known that. I was still expecting Gatesy to reappear again as a punter somewhere else, even on TV because he is not only passionate about Sunderland and very knowledgable, he has a genuine talent to hold conversation and to entertain too.....and like I've already said, he is fair and ballanced with his views. The ledgends died when the fella left, there's no doubt about it. I loved listening to the 'G' Force on a match day when I couldn't get to the the game, he sort of built your excitement up before kick off. I would love him and Lord Rowell to co-host a BBC pre- match programme in the future.
Attendee a talking in with gatesy for a club I played for. A very good night was had by all. Most of which I can't remember now like
I like the show a lot. It was point of difference from other stations as I drove back up home each week. Looks like it will have to be BBC Radio Newcastle or some crappy music station instead.
I think it didn't help that it used to be on so often during the week. Sometimes you would tune in on a Friday and they would still be making the same point as on Tuesday. 6 days a week was far too much when basically they were really only covering 3 teams.
It lost its appeal once Eric Gates was forced off the show..In the end, it was only Bernie Slaven that was worth listening to for me..Horsewill was as numb as a boot and Macdonald was just a first class prick..
