    Happy Birthday to another Mackem Slayer!

    Super Emre over the wall!

    He scored some great goals, goals against Reading and Everton stand out to me. Always added flair, was just unfortunate that he got injured all the time!

    Had a great pic of the free kick he took against 'you know who' when he bent it around Shearer and the ball squeezed in between the keepers finger tips and the post.

    Met him outside SJP when we lost to Chelsa in the Fa Cup, canny bloke and was a good little player, but shame he had his injury problems.

    Good player but didn't look after himself and we suffered as a result. Always said the right things and came across as a nice lad. End of the day though he didn't have enough respect for the club to get himself in the best shape possible. Wouldn't care he oozes quality when you can get him on the pitch. Always be grateful for that goal but then again Albert Luque also scored against the dark side.

    On a different note and because I don't think it warrants its own thread, can anyone explain what the situation is with Shaqiri of Basel. I raved about this lad all last year and over the summer, saying he'd be a great buy. I noted he added a bit more to his value last night with an international hat trick. What I cannot understand is, how is he still at Basel. I assumed it would be a fruitless exercise for us to be honest as he's a bit special but then I noted he did not move over the summer. Anyone shed any light because he just seems too good a player to be left plying his trade in Switzerland. Possibly rejected moves to continue his development there? I understand Pards was at the game last night to look at Deriydok or whatever the name is, so he must have been impressed.

    very neat player, but never did it often enough for me. wish we'd signed him a year or two earlier than we did
