Why not praise our club's gesture also?

Due to your hooligan element throwing knives into the away section at OT your ground was closed by the league for two home games and we came to your rescue(along with Stoke).

[h=1]The forgotten story of ... When Anfield was Manchester United's home ground[/h]It is well known that Liverpool's ground was once home to Everton, but in 1971 United fans called the Kop their home end

Even the matchday programme came replete with a picture of Bill Shankly and Liverpool's legends of the day. Photograph: Public Domain

On Friday 20 August 1971 a team wearing red walked out at Anfield to rapturous applause from supporters bedecked in red and white scarves and standing on the Spion Kop. Their opponents were Arsenal, who had beaten Bill Shankly's side 2-1 in the FA Cup final to secure the double in May of the same year. But the home side were not Liverpool. They wereManchester United.
Hidden deep within the pages of football's dustiest history books lurks a dark secret – or so it appears. The club that now boasts 18 league titles, the same number as Liverpool, could once call Anfield its home, just as Liverpool's great city rivals Everton did in the 1880s. In 1971, with United banned from playing their first two home matches in Manchester, after hooligans had thrown knives into the away section at a match at the end of the previous season, their opening "home" games would be played at Anfield and Stoke's Victoria Ground

It doesn't though, does it. Hence why two of the last three English sides to win it - yourselves and Chelsea - have finished 5th and 6th respectively in the league the same season. Funnily enough both Liverpool in 2005 and Chelsea last year were practically out of the tournament at one stage.

Anyway footballs full of these nice little tales. Its made out to be this intense cauldron of hatred which to be honest it is 90% of the time but every now and again something different happens. The recent weeks have show it still happens aswell <ok>

That more goes to show that you can't effectively perform in more than 1 at a time, not that the CL is any less important.

I don't think we have a fanbase big enough to sell out all these games.Where Utd & Liverpool will always have people stepping in to pick up the spare tickets,we would generally need the season ticket holders to pay out for all the games and people simply can't afford it.Im lucky in that I can afford to go to all the matches but not everyone us in the same boat.Tickets were £35 tonight and many cant afford to keep shelling out
It also seems a bit hypocritical of posters who are ever presents on their clubs match threads to call other teams for not selling all their tickets

    Spot on Paul.

Armchairs have no right to criticise other teams support. City have a good and solid fanbase but haven't had the years of sustained success like Liverpool, United or to a lesser extent Chelsea and Arsenal have had to attract the gloryhunters.

I won't be going to Shaktar at home simply because I can't afford to do that game and Spurs away amongst other trips I have planned to Southampton and then not far round the corner is Christmas and 21st Birthdays which I have to pay for

It's fair to say all supporters/clubs are feeling the pinch and it's also fair to say Utd are an exception to that slightly due to the size of their fanbase and the OT capacity.
City's 'local' fanbase has always been their strength and i cant see that changing anytime soon, if they'd bought and built their own stadium based on their last 20yrs or so attendances at Maine Rd they probably would have went for a 50k stadium and selling the extra 10k tickets wouldn't be such a burden.

City are what they are and always have been, a community friendly football club now with added success, if they continue to be successful their fanbase might grow but it will never match Utd's.

But i bet they don't give a flying one what anyone else thinks becausr of their Champions status atm.:emoticon-0105-wink:

Probably more than 50% of the time the best team in Europe fails to win the Champions League/European Cup/UEFA Cup .

    Interesting.

a few posts back you made the suggestion that proper fans dont go games and then you have a dig at what you consider 'proper' fans for not going.
