Hi guys i have been all over google trying to find out if arsenal can expand the stadium and i havent found a reliable source saying we can or we cant. So i was hoping to get some answers on here to see if we could.Me personaly i think it would be a good idea to increase to around 80k i think we could meet capacity at all our prem games with this. i hear we have over 20k fans on the season ticket waiting list. perhaps this would be a way to lower prices. but i am not sure if this can happen Help please.

Even if we could, which I'm pretty sure we can't, there's no way the club would do it any time soon, they havn't even paid off the stadium yet

Well that sucks, we're going to reach a stage eventually where we will have to increase, then what, move again!

On the corners of the stadium where the big tele's at, those are areas that could be expanded for a lot of seats.

Are you talking about right up around the edges where it dips? Im pretty sure that was something to do with the grass

The major problem with any expansion would not be the stadium itself but the transport links. Arsenal had to pay to improve the transport in order to build the Emirates I believe.

TFL wanted Arsenal to pay to improve Holloway Road underground station to increase the number of passengers it could accomodate but the club refused.

If I remember correctly when it was built it was designed so it could easily be increased to 70,000 but the council wouldnt let them without paying the extra to improve transport. There was something about proving it could cope with 60k before increasing but I doubt theyd agree to a 16/17% increase without improving the transport links.

It's an urban myth matey. The stadium was built with a capacity of 60,000 and there were never any plans to increase it at a later date
As I said in an earlier post the only issue with transport links was the upgrading of Holloway Road station

I'm pretty sure that Islington council have set the capacity at 60k in terms of policing, traffic, crowd control and transport links etc.

The club only wanted to build a stadium with a capacity of 60,000 though. They never negotiated the capacity with Islington because of transport, policing etc.

The original plans submitted were for 70,000 and they had to reduce it 60,000 or pay for the improvements to the transport links. so they amended the plans by taking 2,500 seats from each corner which can easily be added back.

The spaces in the corner were designed like that for the reason I gave earlier,it had nothing to do with adding seats at a later date.

    Yes exactly.

From an engineering perspective I'm sure the Emirates could be expanded by at least another 10,000. For a start its already one of the most spacious stadiums I've ever visited.

The reason it won't be expanded is it would cost another £20-£40 Million just for the public transport expansions needed to facilitate more people.

The club only ever applied for planning permission for a 60,000 capacity stadium and have said they have no intention of expanding it further as it is not possible too so.As I have already said on more than one occasion the only argument about transport infrastructure was the upgrade of Holloway Road station.

Its not possible BECAUSE of the council.

Not because of the stadium. I'm sure from an engineering perspective it is highly possible.
