May as well, he had the freedom of the defence - again. I have never seen so many poor efforts at slide tackling as I saw in 90 minutes today. At least if you are going to go to ground you have to take the ball, the player or both.
Peterboro must have been the worst team to win at our place, since the last time the team at the bottom of the table won at our place. Get it sorted Bruce. Kick some butt. Too many players thinking it was going to be a walk in the park...Blackpool is a must win if we want to be up there..
Too many players went into today with the same attitude as The French Tickler... thinking they were going to win by seven or eight. A look at their results would have told you that, yes, they're a poor side, but they're also difficult to break down. Only once in their seven games before today had they conceded more than two goals in a match - less than us! I agree about the tackling. Quinn's effort on Sinclair was one of the worst slide-tackles I've ever seen in my life. A real pansy effort.
For the second week running we were out thought, if things are going against us we're ****ed, Bruce has all the tactical nouse of a chocolate mouse.
A change of formation to a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 today would have been nice. Especially after we went 2-0 down.
Doesn't that Nick Prosiethingy bloke - have any shampoo? Because he never wants to get his hair dirty by heading the ball..
Seems like a good idea, I don't think 5 at the back is working against counter attacking teams, Elmo and Dudgeon get forward but seem to linger and don't track back which is worrying
It's less a 5-3-2 and more a 3-5-2. Playing with 3 defenders, when one is an out-of-form James Chester, one is a 34-year-old Abdoulaye Faye, and one is Alex Bastard Bruce is suicidal. That's the third time in six games (in all competitions) that we've conceded three goals. We certainly look more of a threat going forward, especially with Elmo, Quinn and Aluko looking to actually get crosses into the box - something we've missed for years - but our previously solid defence is falling to bits. Until we get Hobbs back I'd go with a back-four of Rosenior/Elmo - Faye - Chester - Dudgeon By the time he comes back James Chester should have found his form again, and I'd be less apprehensive about a 3-5-2. In that case I'd go with a back-three/five of Rosenior/Elmo - Faye - Hobbs - Chester - Dudgeon
I agree we need to shore up our defence, last season we were the best defence in the league, now we are letting in substantial amounts of goals, the only game we didn't concede was against brighton on the opening day
I agree, and if we had Stewart id have no issues with that at all, Rosie and Elmo would be quality together, but down the left id be concerned with who was in midfield. Quinn or Koren on the left really doesnt fill me with confidence.
We were incredibly unlucky today. Yes the slide tackling for the first 2 goals was poor and Faye gave him far too long to shoot for the last one. He was probably aware of the lad's pace but at some point you have to close him down and I said he was going to score before he did because he had so much space in front of him to aim. However, we passed them off the park, I'd like to see the stats because that was as one-sided as Milwall and Bolton were. I think they literally had 3 shots and we must have had about 20 and put another 20 crosses in their box. Our possession must have been 60%+. But games like this happen now and again where you concede goals against the run of play and everything goes against you. If we'd scored first today we'd have won by 3 or 4. I have some minor gripes but I don't really blame anyone in particular today. We were miles better than against Leicester. One such gripe is Aluko. He needs to sort his finishing and final ball out because at the moment they seem to be the reason he's playing for us rather than in the PL. He's got all the ability in the world at moving around on the ball but offloading it seems to be a weakness of his. We have too many players who can't shoot just like last season. Simpson is the exception; his goal was an awesome strike and he's proven lately that he's our best striker. Some of the goals he's scored, particularly today, have been ones that Fryatt and McLean would never have scored.
It really grates on me when people say that. How the **** were we unlucky? We weren't good enough in attack to score more than once, and we weren't good enough defensively to concede less than three. I'm no Einstein, but that says to me that 3-1 was the fairest possible result. It's like when someone hits the bar and everyone goes on about how they were unlucky not to score. No, they had a shot that wasn't good enough to amount to a goal (nor even to count as a shot on target). The only time there is anything even remotely like 'luck' in football is when we get refereeing decisions such as 'goals' that cross the line but aren't given, or penalties awarded for fouls that never were (or vice-versa). We had none of that. We were soundly beaten by an opponent who were better on the day, and the final scoreline testifies to that.
I get what you're saying with your definition of luck but no they weren't the better side. The enterred our half 3 times all game and scored each time, it was one of the most one-sided games I've ever seen. You can argue that by giving away 3 crap goals we deserved to lose, but the first two were an incredible series of deflections and they scored without having a real attack. That is luck.
I know I have amber tinted specs but I thought our general all round play was ok today - sloppy defending first from Quinn and then from Chester cost us the game. Before they scored they had hardly been in our half and even by the end of the game we still had 57% possession Do we want to revert to the hard to beat NP style of play or are we looking to be more expansive with the quality our play deserves?
Playing like that we'll win more games then we don't. We were very similar to against Milwall but without the finishing, and with more errors at the other end. It pisses me off that people thought the 3 games we won were the best performances ever, yet as soon as we lose a game playing the same way we're ****. FFS people need to watch the game and form a proper opinion instead of just assuming we were **** cos we lost.
After the game, in Bruce's post match interview, he blamed Chester and Quinn for the goals, no mention of puke boy. Either blame them all, or don't blame anyone, you don't leave junior out.
How the **** is it that Quinn has the responsibility of keeping their striker Sinclair out? Quinny is a nippy winger/midfielder not a central defender. For the third goal, it was like Leicester's third last week. Our corner and they just break from their own area to ours and stroke it in. Some turd will reckon it's good that all our big men come up for corners - without realising how easy it is to bang one in at our end on the break.
