News that Emile Heskey is a free agent reaches QPR... please log in to view this image http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...looking-new-club-England-spell-Australia.html Why don't we partner Heskey and Ferdinand at the back? They're both triffic lads with bags of experience; fantastic influences in the dressing room. They can offer a calm senior head to guide our younger pros like Clint Hill. I think Heskey can still do a job, because at his best he's undoubtedly a top-drawer player. If we can get 25 games out of him we'd more than get our money's worth. Both lads have 60+ England caps, and have 150caps for top 4 teams- they've operated at the very very highest level. Since when have QPR been 'too good' for ex-captains of England? It's all about getting the right blend in the PL, we can mix these experienced pros with some youth. I know age-wise it's not necessarily the most forward-looking, but we absolutely need to retain our PL status this season. Everything else comes secondary. Rio and Emile have actually played the same number of games over the last 2 seasons, so are in physically similar shape at the moment. That would lend itself to a nice balance in our CB positions. Onouha can provide quality cover!
Ah, I'm guessing you're concerned about a potential lack of pace? Emile has great positional awareness, which compensates for his athletic shortcomings. Just look at Richard Dunne this season; his game-reading attributes helped him dominate many championships attacks. I can see Emile filling a similar role for us- he'd be our premier league Dunniemonster, a man mountain. We have a tradition of writing off potential signings- just look at the reception Clint Hill got when he joined. There's no reason Heskey wouldn't be exactly the same
Heskey started the A League season with a bang but fizzled out somewhat. The guy can still bang in a goal but surely not suited to the PL anymore. Let's face it, if he was coming back to the Championship .................... maybe, just maybe as an impact player. Anyway, just my two bob's worth.
He does have a lot of experience though, which is exactly what we need. Green, Simpson, Dunne, Onouha, Traore, Hoillet, Barton, Faurlin, Phillips all have premier league experience. But Charlie Austin doesn't...so I feel we need another wise head to help guide the lad through it. He's got a delicate temperament our Charlie; without Heskey's arm round his shoulder he stands a cat's chance in hell in the PL.
