Im gutted he's missed so much of this season, i really had high hopes for him. He showed last year he can handle the physical side of the game after getting rave reviews for Grimsby. His creativity from midfields could have made a big difference for us this season... https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...and-prospects-midfielder-nears-return-2089323
Still might with a bit of luck, I can imagine there'll be more than a few games left where we can't quite break through the oppo and a trickster like Embleton might just be the key.
Yes i remember when McClean finally got his chance coming off the bench against Blackburn, and then starting every game after that. He saved our season because we looked doomed for relegation before ONeill gave him his chance.
I seem to remember Connor Wickham having a similar effect ... ... perhaps you could say the same for Brady and Colin West. TBH I've been through so many 'knife edge' seasons I'm starting to lose track.
Knife edge seasons is what we do mate....very rarely safely tucked up in mid table with nowt to play for.
One of our very few seasons in mid table, over the last 50 years of travelling the country, was when I saw every game, league and cup. It was when we played Stockport, home and away, in the League Cup, it was the only time I managed it. By the end of the season the other lads were totally losing interest in going from Mansfield week after week so I was bigging up each game and finding reasons they were 'unmissable' ... I think the last game was away to Ipswich and I literally had to drag them there
At the start of this season I was hoping to see Robson and Embleton establish themselves in our first team squad, both have looked capable in cameos but have suffered injury at vital times, but I'm still clinging on to that hope. However it seems PP likes to play the same eleven game after game and its working so far, and I cant see him changing anything until it is forced on him by injury or suspension or a serious decline results-wise. With our current squad midfield chances are going to be few and far between.
