I'm only going to get to see the first half cos I'm playing league fives during the second half We've actually got a really good record recently on artificial pitches, but then, having played on the big 3G pitch at Lennoxtown (my team lost), it's easy to see that training on 3G clearly helps. Sammy ran them ragged in the first game - I'm genuinely concerned that the team that started on Saturday (minus big Derk) might not have the same effect against this team. Early goal leaves them needing 3 - needs to happen
No, expect them to go out in the next round tho, but who knows, managed to beat barca and get to the last 16 somehow last season. But Wanyama was huge for us in the Champions League and Hooper was quite important too, neither have been replaced. The club has no ambition, its just a business and and I dont have the same passion for it that I used to.
Starting to feel a bit like this too...the board are raking in cash left right n centre: Ki: £6m Wanyama: £12.5m Hooper: £5m Champions League TV cash: £20m Ok, not all of that will have been recieved in up front lump sums, but that cash along with matchday revenues (champions league nights) minus any overheads still equates to Celtic doing current transfer business as cheaply as possible. Seem to want to wait and see ... If no champions league this year, I can see more being sold!
I see what you mean Eddie but the "ambition" route can also lead to bankruptcy, a succession of mad crooks trying to wrestle power from each other and then oblivion...
Celtic are very well run, however, if Celtic want regular Champions League group stages to build on the current model in place then the board need to spend some cash to try and gurantee it. Improve the squad year on year, not weaken it and not replace, at the very least, like for like.
I agree, I don't think the Celtic board do though. Be interesting to see what they'll do in the transfer market if they make it through this round and get a difficult draw in the next one.
All that, plus our owner is a billionaire..... We are a victim of Scottish football, tv and prize money is poor and there is no serious rival to get us out of second gear to win the league. We cant attract the best players to the league but the name Celtic can always get a good level of player if you are willing to pay for them. We could be trying to build a decent level of team that would be competitive in the group stages every year but with no guaranteed place for winning our league its risky and the money men at Parkhead would rather play it safe as a selling club.
