Further to something I mentioned on the Everton MoM thread, can anyone remember the last league match Elmo missed? Unless I'm mistaken, the last time he wasn't involved was in January 2013... and even then he wasn't injured - he was between loans to us and played that day in the Premier for Sunderland while we were drawing at Peterborough.
He's doing well for a player who looks like he's the victim of a high-powered snipers rifle about 5 times a match!
First name on the team sheet as far as I'm concerned. Iron man, great attitude, and an invaluable two way player.
I like that he's the target for all of McGregor's goal kicks, I don't think I've ever seen a player win more headers than Elmo does during a game. He's clearly spent a lot of time working on that.
He's just all round awesome isn't he, in the air, swinging ball after ball into the box like nobody I've ever seen at City before, his seems to outpace some of the fastest players in the league with ease, his energy and tireless stamina and another thing I think defensively he has improved massively. Last season he was caught out a few times but his concentration at the back has been much better this season. There is only one criticism I would have of Elmo, for some reason he plays it inside to a central midfielder and you expect him to make a run for a one-two but he never ever makes the run, it can be very frustrating to watch as he plays it and just drops off. However for me he has to be the first name on the team sheet every week.
I'm sure i read an interview with Elmo and he said he was a champion 400 metre runner as a youth. Trained for those lung bursting runs
Ahh Elmo, a great larker but just not PL material. Was what some Mackems told me when we signed him. Just goes to show eh?
I was talking to some bitter Mackems a while back who were quick to point out to me that he flattered to deceive. Can't beat his man. Poor crosser. Can't tackle. Never gets into goalscoring positions. Leaves other players exposed. Injury prone. No stamina. I had no option but to agree on all counts. I'll say one thing about Sunlan fans: they sure know our Elmo.
To be fair to the Mackem fans (and it's not often I write that!), he has developed as a player in the past three years, particularly this season. Today's Elmo is a different beast from the one they watched.
I really like Elmo - over the time we've had it he's a very different player to the one we signed. This season especially he's become much better defensively - 2 years ago there's no way he'd have been able to play in a flat back 4 and Chester often had to cover for him. These days it's not so much of an issue with him at right back and as a wing back he's more than good enough defensively.
The guy works his bollocks off every game. He rarely grabs the headlines, but he's probably our most important player. Take him out of the starting XI and we're a completely different team. He's a terrific player and has a great attitude. You can tell he's one of those players who loves playing football. I'd say he's our most consistent player as well. Very, very rarely does he have a poor game.
I'll also add to our Elmo love-in his reaction when automatic promotion was confirmed a couple of years ago.
I can remember when he first came the Sunderland fans were happy to see him go. He has turned out the be the most consistent performer, and you rarely get a bad game form him.
