I feel Steve Bruce has got so much wrong this season I hesitate to add another one, but....Elmohamady inked in every week and delivering nowhere near enough in my opinion. Too often when we play 3-5-2 he barely gets over the half way line away from home and today as a right winger very ineffectual and then sort of trotted forward occasionally from right back in last 20 mins but with little urgency.. Would far rather see Aluko given a go as a right winger or Ince recalled - at least they would try to get past a full back which we barely did at all today.
So you're gonna blame Elmo then. The full team is lacking no matter what system we play People on here go on about we should play this system that system but nothing is working We can't defend so simply throw the ****ing kitchen sink at the last 6 games and **** the consequences coz were are going down anyway
I don't think there's many better in the league than Elmo in a 3-5-2 but a 4-4-2 and in front of a centre half playing full back? It's s lot to ask.. We have bigger problems than Elmo to worry about for me he's still consistantly one of our best performers and a snip at £2.5m.
\not just blaming him. Just think we play without anyone else attacking down the right because it's Elmo's role and he ain't doing enough. I would suggest that defending is about the only thing we normally do quite well at the moment. Not enough pace or goals elsewhere.
You don't have to be a tactical genius to beat this team. Stop the wing-backs and you stop Hull City. Every opposition manager knows our midfield can only pass sidewards or backwards. The lack of creativty is there for all to see. It's a shame to see a team that gives 100% coming away with so little but at this level you need more than running your balls off to wins matches.
Yes. I think you're right Baldrick. But you left out something really important from that post - what's you're cunning plan???
I have said many times that when Elmo has the measure of his marker he runs riot but at this level they have proven to be few and far between.
Rosenior at RB, Elmo at RM. Simple. Gets the most out of both players and doesn't put pressure on Elmo to stay back and defend.
Agreed. He's not gonna beat the fullback much at this level. That's fine cos his contribution in starting attacks is excellent but we really need someone else who can beat a man. With the money spent last summer, it's an almighty ****up that we've ended up with a worse strikeforce than we finished last season with and no better creativity from the wings or midfield.
7m for Livermore was a big issue, Ben Arfa upset the squad harmony, and Hernandez for 10m was an issue. Not so much having a crack at Livermore or Hernandez as players, but those price tags just put so much pressure and expectation on them and limit the amount of players we can bring in. Snodgrass also really hurt.
The thing is, last season we finished the year knowing exactly what our best team was and our best formation. This year we change formation every single game, we change the team every single game and I don't think any of us would know what our best team is, especially without Jelavic.
Our best team would include players playing in their natural positions, rather than ramming a load of square pegs in round holes to fit as many defenders in the side as possible. After Harpers far steadier display yesterday I'd go with Harper Rosenior Chester Dawson Robertson Elmo Livermore Huddlestone Brady/Quinn Ramirez N'Doye
Diame for Ramirez I would say, especially since he should be up to speed for our next game. Other than that I agree.
There's the elephant in the room. We all know that one man doesn't make a team but without Jela in the side we seem totally incapable of winning games. Hernandez started off like a house on fire, Jela gets injured, Abel looks like he lost all confidence, and exactly the same thing has happened with N'Doye. Unless Jela can get his arse fit, which is unlikely this season, we look pretty much ****ed I'm afraid.
