Taken from today's Echo, looking forward to hearing what he has top say but it all sounds good to me. Reading between the lines i think we can see a busy summer in the transfer market if he is to keep putting money in? SUNDERLAND owner Ellis Short is to make another address to the clubââ¬â¢s fans in the near future to explain his plans and hopes for the future. Since getting involved with the club three years ago, the American billionaire, below, has made only one public appearance, through a specially arranged interview with the clubââ¬â¢s TV channel. Now he is planning another interview through the same channel so fans can get a clearer idea of his commitment to the club and his vision for the future. Club chairman Niall Quinnn revealed the ownerââ¬â¢s plans at a talk-in at Whiteleas Social Club last night. ââ¬ÅEllis is set to do another interview with SAFC TV to give the fans reassurance,ââ¬Â he said. ââ¬ÅHe is not your quintessential foreign owner who might come to a Premier League club looking to make a quick profit. ââ¬ÅHe gets as agitated at referees as any of us.ââ¬Â ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s as happy as any of us at us scoring a goal and he probably gets more excited about players on other sides diving or injustices. ââ¬ÅYouââ¬â¢ve got to be delighted about it, though ââ¬â at how much he has bought into it. ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s never had publicity about his businesses and he worried about that when he first came on board with the club. ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s not one for publicity, but he saw the clubââ¬â¢s potential and the human side of the story and it was something he wanted to be involved in. ââ¬ÅHe keeps up to date with whatââ¬â¢s going on all the time. ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s very, very committed and I think heââ¬â¢s as near as youââ¬â¢ll get to a perfect owner.ââ¬Â Quinn also revealed that Short will continue his funding for the club as long as he feels it is the right thing to do to grow the business. But Quinn also pointed that if the clubââ¬â¢s attendances continued to fall away in coming seasons, then he as chairman would be failing in his duty if he did not tell the board it might be wisest for the business to consider cutting down on investment too. ââ¬ÅEllis Short isnââ¬â¢t just doing this for fun,ââ¬Â he said. ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s building up an asset on his portfolio and part of what keeps him interested are the efforts of ourselves and our fans to make it work. ââ¬ÅHe believes in us and as long as we as a club are continuing to go in the right direction and continuing to grow and develop, I think he will support us all the way"
Good stuff welder, with all the rumours going round not long ago, Bruce leaving, Quinn off and Short pulling out its great to see all quashed. Bruce with his new contract, Quinn on TV then his road shows and now Short. That carpet still has its magic feel.
Yes it will be interesting for you guys to see what he has to say but I've already got all the details from my source at the club. Sorry but I've had to swear on oath that I won't reveal the details. Also I have swearing turned off so I can't ******* tell you anyway.
So long as he can bring us to the glory days as in the past I'm a happy bunny, i envisage 2 or three years time playing in Europe and everyone knowing about Sunderland.
I have always wnated to hear what E. S. thinks about the ckub and his investment. Loved his reaction at home V Ars as seen on the tele. Quinny seems to indicate that ES has bought in to genuine heartfelt support, so i would love to hear confirmation of that from the horse's mouth. Good on ya, Ellis.
So, the first public words in 3 years, I think it's overdue. There is no doubt that ES has provided massive financial support for SAFC, and his "investment", in purely monetary terms must be well in excess of ã100m. I would hate to think of an owner of our club in the mould of the Glazers or Gillette/Hicks, because of 2 main reasons. First, their leveraged buyouts saddling clubs with the debt incurred in that purchase, and second the fact that they have/had NO passion for their club bar the passion to make a profit when they sell. ES is not guilty of saddling the club with debt, the public passion he has shown is welcome - and most likely totally genuine - but he has a rep in the financial world of an absloutely ruthless asset manager. It is for this last reason I WANT to hear how HE views the club, is he now besotted with SAFC, or merely very enthusiastic for his investment and the potential returns?
Quinny was full of praise for Ellis during last night's talk-in at Sedgefield. He gave us an insight into his passion for the game and Sunderland in particular. The TV interview will probably be done around the Liverpool game. He said Ellis gave Peter Crouch an earful when we played Spurs down there after the way he's messed us about. Not bad a billionaire owner who wants to keep his head down and loves Sunderland. Are you watching Ashley?
Oh and Steve Walton said Ellis Short had put more money into Sunderland than all the other previous owners put together. What a guy!
This is not his first time mate, he did it in his first year with us. Never saw it myself but he was on SAFCTV.
Quinny told the story how Ellis celebrated our win at Chelsea so loudly that his neighbours complained - he was in a hotel in Singapore at the time was on tv
No it wasn't Big Chris. My contacts name is Michael and I'm sure he can be trusted to give correct information
