    The Black Cats are involved in what appears to be a three-team battle against the drop. Aston Villa seem destined for second tier football next season with Sunderland, Norwich and Newcastle all fighting to avoid joining them, although Crystal Palace, Swansea and Watford could yet be dragged into the relegation scrap. Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting owner Short is looking for a sale regardless of what division the Stadium of Light outfit are in next term but The Journal have claimed the Texan has "no plans" to sell, citing Sunderland sources.
