I'll credit PleaseNotPoll with the heads up in the match day thread. Elliot has been taken off on a Stretcher playing for Ireland. BIG PROBLEM
Credit Elliot he has been great for us when the rest of the team has been useless. He is going to be a big miss if out for a while.
FFS. That's it surely? Darlow was horrendous when he played and Woodman would be a massive risk. Well if we do go down, we can't blame this as bad luck, that would be implying we haven't been dogshit all season.
Maybe, maybe not, but Darlow should be given a chance. Go back to when Krul was injured, and Elliot only got a chance because Darlow was already injured. There were plenty of groans when it became clear Elliot would be playing, but, that hasn't turned out too bad, has it.
Rather different situation - Woodman is an England youth regular and Arsenal are heavily interested in snapping him up at the end of the season...he's certainly got more pedigree than Alnwick. I agree it's a big risk having a kid in goal (a keeper should always be experienced), but Darlow looked all over the place against West Brom, we can't be having a liability like that in the first team at this stage.
I'm sure Rafa will play the better of the 2 (Darlow or Woodman) but Woodman's age shouldn't be the concern, AC Milans goalkeeper is 17. Without being too cliche if you're good enough you're old enough....... though that thinking did get Adam Johnson into trouble!
True, but Darlow has looked shaky when he's played. Regardless, one of them has to play so thrown in at the deep end for either.
I supported Alnwick plenty, had heard good things about him from the reserves and was fully behind him having a chance. He proved not to be good enough, simple as that. My point was that Woodman has a high reputation up to this point, and you can't juse say he shouldn't be in the team because he's young, especially as Darlow has hardly staked his claim so far.
Alnwick was not in the same class as Woodman. The former was out of his depth. I don't think Woodman will be.
Latest reports are that he has suffered 'major' ligament damage - ACL and medial damage. Possible torn ligaments. If true, he's out for 18 months.
