Pre-season I like to do a google news search for Leeds United just to catch up on possible signings and rumours, the above headline was top today, I got all excited thinking we had just signed Allan Smith back but then realised the article was in regards to the Newcastle friendly *sigh* http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport...elland_back_for_leeds_old_boy_smith_1_3625411
Must be hard playing in a friendly where portions of both sets of fans are going to be shouting dog's abuse at you?
If we hadn't gone tits up with finances I wonder if he would have ever left. I know he went to bitter rivals and who knows the whole story of why but I am still undecided deep down if I would have wanted to see him back in a Leeds shirt for the 2011/12 season...
If he wanted to sign for Leeds he could. We were interested in him - as Bates and Grayson admitted - but he didn't want a wage cut.
We are fans and we want players to play for Leeds Utd who love the team like we do but they are far and few between for any club. Players are just employee's for their club, when a better offer comes along they will nearly always take it, just as we would in our every day jobs. I have no idea what he is on at present but lets say it is around £25k a week, of course he isn't going to drop that by 50% would any of us? You have to remember it is all relative, £12k a week sounds a lot to us and it is but to many footballers it isn't
he's on £60k a week, that is pretty common knowledge. He's still a ****, I don't want him at the club, and I doubt he'd even be worth it even if I did drop the prejudice for a moment. He'd probably just laze about and not put much effort in or get injured or be arrogant or some ****e. Go forwards not backwards.
I know the truth is that he kissed the scum badge on TV for everyone to see, it's just unfortunate that for whatever reason the footage is not available on the internet. Probably down to the fact that youtube wasn't around when it happened and digital recording media was still a baby in commerical terms.
He didn't, that's a myth. Amazing how you can find all the other footage from that time on the internet but not that one thing. There's no written record of him ever doing it either.
Just a Hypothetical question for you.... If you were offered a season ticket at Old Trafford and you had to go to all the home games and you collected a payment of £60,000 a week for doing so would you?
I have no problem with the fact that he went. It was good for the club and good for his career. It's that as a "Leeds fan" h e could kiss their dirty scum badge. That's the insult.
Couldn't care less about Smith playing for Man Utd, or kissing a badge, means NOWT to me, my issue with Smith was and always will be, that he simpy was not good enough and spent most of the game arguing with players and the referee. He has been very lucky to have the career he has, in most employments, he would have had a capability investigation made against him.
Smith had to leave Leeds. He was one of our most valuable assets, and there was no possible way he could have stayed at the club, even if he played for free. The club needed to do a deal quickly, and Man Utd came and offered £6million upfront, so we accepted and he went there. Read Peter Lorimers interview in the YEP today - he was a director at the time and was directly involved in that transfer.
I could not give a flying **** if Smith plays or not, ****ing hell move on. Use your energy to get behind the lads not to waste time shouting at a has been who left the club coming up to a decade ago.
Will be doing both in plentiful supply, mainly supporting the Whites. Won't forget his betrayal though.
