Anyone watch the Egypt v New Zealand game today? The game was brilliant and some of the Egypt players look quality. The game reminded me of the different views on how football should be played and who should be in your team. I loved the Egypt way of passing and movement, not allowing the opposition time on the ball and acting as a team. The New Zealand way was very British, up and at em, with a physical presence and less technical skill on show. There can be no doubt that the New Zealand way is the way Warnock wants Leeds to go, hence the quality of players he has brought in, sad really, I don't class it as football.
Thankfully you're not in charge of FIFA or else the only teams allowed to play would be Barcelona, Swansea and Spain. Football is so open to interpretation, who are you to say the Stoke City way isn't proper football?!
I am a paying customer and anyone who does so has a right to express their opinion, it is perhaps sad that people like you appear to accept 2nd and 3rd rate football, the style that isn't entertaining, the style that is British. I'd never pay to watch something that was pish poor in both quality and entertainment, why do some fans of the game think football is above this? I'd cut the amount of professional football teams in the world, to a level that represented only those who had players with a high quality of technical ability and skill, then we would not have players who simply are not good enough and only those with a high level of consistant performance would actually make it. Anyway, give me the flare and skill at all times. As for the Egyptian team, some really decent players in that team, well worth further looking at. New Zealand were pish, totally expected. The Egypt Centre Back who got his 2nd booking (tournament) was the stand out for me, passed the ball like a quality midfield player, chased back, went forward, controlled the back line and comfortable on the ball. British style of football tactics:
Or perhaps you're too narrow minded to appreciate there is more than one way of playing football. I think the premiership and the championship and even leagues 1&2 to be highly entertaining leagues, despite the fact the quality and technical ability is lower than our international counterparts. If all football teams played like Spain, we as fans would soon get bored and complain that they're too slow and they pass too much. And at club level, until money stops being the be all and end all of football, you will never get a level playing field in terms of ability, so clubs like Stoke, West Ham etc, play to their strengths! And if it's successful why would they complain!? Long passes, blood and thunder tackles and deep defending are just as much football as maintaining possession and skill and creativity. And perhaps I'm too open minded to assume football has to be played in a certain way to keep everyone happy.
More leave it as it is opposed to change things and limit it to only those with the required technical skill. Would you pay to watch Jamie Murray play tennis as opposed to Andy Murray? I doubt it, in other sports you only want to watch the best and I don't see why football should be any different. The fact that Egypt and UAE try to play football on the deck and with passing and movement, says it all, the British may win some games but the quality will lessen and eventually the smaller football nations will catch up and then overtake the British teams. If things don't change, the future of football in the British Isles may not be bright, no matter what appears as entertainment just now. Chelsea won the C.L. playing one of the most dreadful interpretations of football ever seen and England bored the opposition and their own fans into submission in the European Championships, I won't even try to discuss the ****e that is Scotland. People will stop coming and the decent players will stop coming to the EPL simply for the money.
And there lies the problem - the best...the best is simply a point of view in terms of the style of play! Many people were saying Spain were boring before the euros, so clearly not everyone agrees that the possession style is the best!
Anyone watching Egypt today could not have been entertained, they played a glorious style of football and only failed with the final product. Every player was technically able and was comfortable on the ball, as far as I am concerned that is what I expect from professional football players.
So if a team like Stoke do succeed with their final product, it's not worthy just because their style isn't as glorious?
Doesn't matter who that team is, it is the quality of the display that counts. Winning isn't everything as far as I am concerned, but I know others see things differently.
I agree completely that winning isn't everything, but because football is such a results driven business with so much money in the balance hinging on the outcome of the RESULT,not the performance, you will see teams playing the less attractive way because it gets them points and results.
In a way you are now agreeing with me, there's too many teams/players with no technical skill and thus the clubs need cash to pay for the squads. Less teams and less players will lead to better quality and less payouts for average players, who are no better than some non-league players. Football needs a complete overhaul and unless it looks at itself soon, problems will come very fast. I honestly don't think people will continue to pay £35 to watch pish football, they will spend their money on other entertainment, if they can afford it. Less fans attending or buying goods, will lessen the income to the clubs and effect the finances of football. Edit: Alan Hansen on BBC Olympics tonight - "the UAE team tonight were technically more gifted than the GB". UAE players were more technically gifted than the GB players, surely that must worry football fans in the UK?
If there is a football on the pitch with two sides of 11 players facing each other then its football, what a load of bollox you talk sometimes boab, the beautiful game is not always beautiful now is it !!!!!!! still football though
Agree with you 100% boab that football in Britain needs to develop much more technically gifted players. The thing is, the players who have come here from abroad that have both the physical qualities we like in watching British football and the technical qualities (eg such as Patrick Vieira) have shown that mixing the two is very much possible. It's a damn shame that we move away from improving the techncal side from about age 8, as soon as the kids start playing football and the parents demand that their little cherubs win, any way and any how, and if they don't like what the coach is doing, they will move their kid to a team that has "a winning mentality". It's so frustrating. It bothers me so much that people don't know how to pass properly, accurately and with pace direct to someone's feet nowadays, in a way that allows them to first touch pass the ball on to a third party. It bothers me that players make a pass and then sit back and admire it instead of moiving immediately into a position that allows them to easily found for the next pass if needed. It bothers me that so-called professional footballers do not have a footballing brain, do not have peripheral vision, and do not know how to use both feet. Every one of these things can be taught. But only as long as we educate the pork that is their parents.
Wow. Where did that come from? Alcohol-fuelled? I have ve2 great kids, both of whom have fantastic technical skills and great physique and stamina, love the game and have had the opportunity to develop at these pace, in line with the regulations proposed as best practice from the FA under Trevor Brookings recent reign. It happens to be in line with the tlatest coaching techniques employed in the best leagues in the world. It is exactly what every world class coach preaches. Your comment makes you look a right fool
After what you've said in this thread, Boab, I'm absolutely astounded that you started supporting Leeds in the era you did! How come it was ok then, but not now?
You're ****ING schizo pal. Somethings loose. All those exclamations show you're pissed up or screwed up. Go to bed before you do something to someone you will regret
Seriously !!!!! you post threads alienating yourself and have the gall to call me a schizo, maybe take a good look in the mirror pal.
