The destruction of English football begins. The following was leaked on Bolton Wonderers website and then taken down quickly. It shows disregard for youth development as 'invited clubs' will enter B teams into the competition. Please support the cause to stop all of this crap.

I'm clearly not reading this right.

Isn't the EFL Trophy only for the teams in the bottom 2 Divisions ? If they want to play 2nd string players in it and concentrate on the League, then that's entirely down to them !

From what I see, there's all League 1 and 2 clubs, plus an extra 16 from what they call 'Invited' clubs (i.e. those with the strongest or most developed academy set ups). I really don't see how this shows disregard for youth development (challenging games against senior club sides can surely only be good) and certainly not the 'destruction of English football'...

ajwm, if there's something sinister in this, please spell it out, as it's not at all apparent to me?

Basically, the 'invited teams' are believed by many to be Premier League B teams.

Don't forget that there's a lot of movement in terms of EPL teams trying to get B teams inserted into the English leagues.

You could say it's people being paranoid but there's a lot of movement in that direction. It's like the NHS being privatised slowly.

You should be, it's the first step towards having 'satellite' clubs that will basically be a training club for bigger clubs younger and reserve players. It's a way of the 'Elite' clubs controlling every aspect of the league structure for their benefit. If 'B' teams start beating the best of League One clubs what future does the game have? Linking up with a local club as your 'satellite' may be seen as the only way the smaller club will survive competitively...

I'm sure it'll all sort itself out. This sport is in wonderful, capable hands.
