I can't for the life of me understand how Kompany has won this and Mowbray was not even in the running. I am not saying Kompany hasn,t done a great job but with a good few premier league playes( Although I haven't checked to see how many) and also with parashute payments too.How is it he has done a better job than Mowbray who without a Striker and a bunch of kids, without even mentioning just being promoted? For the record I even think Carrick has done a better job than Kompany. Definately Sky having their favorites. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere but couldn't see a thread on this.
You could certainly make an argument for Mowbray, Robins and Carrick IMHO but generally it goes to the team that win the league. It wasn't an easy job for Kompany to turn round the mentality and completely change the way they play. I do find it odd that these awards are handed out before the end of the season - if Mowbray got us up through the play offs then I think MOTS should go to him
Burnley are on course to finish with 100 points. No-one has done that in a decade. Only 5 teams have ever done it. It's an incredible achievement. They're not just slightly better than us, they're 30 points better off than us. That's 10 wins better in a 46 game season. They've played a lot of great football at times too. It's easy to say in hindsight that they have "Premier League players and parachute money" but at the start of the season, people were speculating that they might be in trouble. At no point this season was there a title challenge. It's been Burnley's since about December. That's a phenomenal achievement.
All good points and opinions but I still think Mowbray should have had a mention and perhaps Carrick to win it but lets see what happens by the end of the play offs
Giving it to the manager who wins the league regardless of their situation is the quickest, easiest, some would say laziest decision to make. There's certainly a case for several other managers in the division.
Mowbray and Kompany have both hugely exceeded expectations and either one deserves it. I can see why you'd give it to the team that smashed the league though it's more eye catching. I don't know how hard the task was at Burnley but I doubt it was anywhere near as tough as taking on a team who scraped promotion from league one, suffered long term injuries to countless key players, had no striker for most of the season and still made a roaring success of it. Points totals aside we could well end up achieving the same thing as Burnley and that's massive credit to Mowbray. Whatever happens
Goal of the season and manager of the season without a mention of Sunderland, who have scored, and I quote “the best goal you will see this season” and achieved a close to (if not actual) play off place with a team of kids. Half of whom have either never played first team football, or never played in England until this season! It’s embarrassing really. I get the Kompany thing. Done a great job. But he was dealt a pair of aces when Mowbray was dealt 7/2 off suit!
