Thinking of taking my girlfriend over to Edinburgh for New Years Eve this year. Its her 30th birthday and we had spoke about going away for a few days. Checked out some hotels and I think it was working out about £140 a night in the city centre. Was speaking to a fella from work and he was saying how good it was but that you had to pay to get access to one of the streets or parks or something!?! What's that about? Also, when should I book hotel etc? I've got the money now but was looking at getting a last minute holiday in the next few weeks to somewhere sunny.
It depends what bands are on. The price depends on where you go. It costs more to get into the Ross bandstand area than it does to get into Princes Street. If you can, it's worth going for a couple of days as there are loads of things going on.
I wouldn't bother mate. The past few years have saw "Global Warming" inflict a **** load of snow and high winds which has rendered the street parties null and void. Do what I do, and head for sunnier climes. I was in Lanzarote for Hogmany/Ne'er this year, 25 degrees, eating tapas with a t-shirt and shorts on. New years day on the beach. ****in magic
That's the one night of the year that Stereo gets drunk on sweet sherry and goes round the crowds fondling the buttocks of unsuspecting revellers. Is it worth the risk?
Planning on heading over for a few days. Would go away to somewhere warmer but trying to carry some of my leave through into next financial year. Thought I would give it a go as I've heard good things about it, though you are right it has been baltic around NYE the past few years.
It's rubbish... Not worth it and usually gets cancelled. Also, place is full Embra ****ers and Leith junkies! PS Edinburgh's also a ****hole with crap pubs.
If shortbread, tartan, kilts, bagpipes and all things that represent Scotch twee is your bag then Edinburgh is the place for you. Everwhere else in Scotland is modern and up to date and for people that are refined.
