All the talk of new signings, and the ongoing soap opera with Lesta seems to be overshadowing the FA Cup draw against Crawley. We're not overlooking that Crawley will be a really tough nut to crack are we? I don't think Barmby will underestimate them for a minute, but if the fans get sucked into this complacent attitude could get through to the players? I remember the Hednesford Town game at BP years ago when the press and TV sniffed an upset. What of Sunderland v L**ds FA Cup Final? Wimbledon v Liverpool FA Cup Final. Hereford v Newcastle years ago? Nah it couldn't happen could it. It's only Crawley. I won't even bother looking at who they've played this season, probably a load of nobodies. In fact the only upset Crawley have ever had in the FA Cup was last season, when everyone was choked that they couldn't beat Man Utd at Old Trafford. Fancy, a non league team losing 1 - 0 to that lot. If they can't beat them they won't beat us. Will they?
We're not overlooking anyone but the transfer window is now and the FA Cup isn't til the end of the month so it's going to be on the back burner. Anyone who thinks it's going to be an easy game is an idiot but anyone who thinks it isn't a great opportunity is too. Crawley can wait.
Please don't hold your breadth. We are supporting Hull City you know. If anyone can **** it up we can
That Hednesford Town game was a shocker. Feature game on the 3 hour bumper premier league and fa cup match of the day and we play awful and lose 2-0. The only highlight for me was my left arm appearing on match of the day. I always enjoy our cup games as the first game I ever went to was vs Lincoln in 94 in the cup and was hooked from then. Bit wary of Crawley Town but not the worst draw we could have had
as the old saying goes take each game as it comes, im only thinking about peterborough at the minute and hoping we get back to winning games. saying that tho, im getting a bit fed up of people pointing out how good crawley are etc...fair point it wont be easy as no game is, but we are 6th in the championship so we are no mugs either, 1st thing my workmates said to me monday morning was, oh you didnt want that draw, there flying! unbelievable!... we could have got drawn at stamford bridge, or old trafford, it is about as good a draw you can get in the 4th round of the fa cup with a real desire to progress so if you cant feel a little bit relieved and confident after this draw , i dont know when you ever will be able too.
Personally think it is the best draw we could have had they are way better than League 2 and Matt Tubbs is a very good player
It is a good draw for us. If we played our very best team we would win. We won't play our best team, we will play a team that the manager judges will get a result. That's where the problem lies. It's very difficult to do that against confident lower div teams who will put out their best. Get the selection wrong and it's a banana skin just waiting.
No one is taking it for granted we will get through to round 5 - Crawley will be a tough game. Let's concentrate on getting the points against Peterbro' first
Against Crawley I'd expect to see some youth/young fringe players. Something like (wrongly assuming we don't sign anybody): Manonne East Cooper Hobbs (c) Dudgeon Garcia Cairney Evans Emerton McLean Stewart Subs Oxley/Peet, McShane, Dawson, Fryatt, Brady, Cullen, Devitt.
Those of us of a certain age can well remember 3rd November 1962 and being 1 - 4 down at half time to a certain Crook Town in the FA Cup. I believe Maurice Swan was in goal and one particular supporter was so irate after the 4th Crook Town goal he went between the sticks pushing Maurice out of the way, only to be led away himself by the men in blue. I got a grandstand view being behind the goal at the North Stand end, but also got earache off the Crook Town supporters. That was until Ray Henderson scored City's 5th and relief all round, so beware of Crawly Town.
Maurice Swan signed for us in 1963, so it must have been a different keeper, was Billy Bly still playing then? However it was probably Bernard Fisher, who was with us until 1963.
Hi John Got the program in front of me now and the team sheets reads thus: Williams, 2: Davidson, 3:Garvey, 4:Collinson, 5:Feasey, 6:McMillan, 7:Clarke, 8rice, 9:Chilton, 10:Henderson, 11:McSeveney. I should have checked before committing to posting but Mike Williams it was, he made 88 appearances for Hull City then went elsewhere. http://www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.com/player3/mikewilliams.htm Thanks for the correction, but Bernard Fisher was also a very good goalie but for anyone interested this webpage is a good source of info on past Hull City players, some long forgotten. http://www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.com/hull/hull.htm
Yes I remember Mike Williams, from memory I think he was a bit light weight, but agile. Some familiar names there, Brian Garvey was a good player, and for his size Paul Feasey coped OK at centre half.
One game at a time. But I think that Nick will play a similar team to the one that beat Ipswich Town especially with a league game at hiome to Doncaster Rovers 3 days later(tuesday night). ffs, no game is easy but the game should be Citys. then in round 5 lets have the winners at home again of Stevenage and Notts Co. QTR Finals again anyone ?? at least a good cup run will give the squad players a chance.
Either Stevenage, Notts County or a Prem team would be ideal - IF we beat crwaley (which I expect us to)
