Just been having a talk with a few Norwich fans and it got me wondering.

Is it getting easier or harder for newly promoted teams to survive in the Premiership?

Two have done it this season.... and maybe even three who knows..

West Brom have been up and down for a couple of seasons.
We only dipped quickly into the championship so weren't exactly a 'newly promoted team' in the exact same sense like.
The only team who went up after trying for a few seasons was Blackpool, and they're likely to go down.

After this season? Definitely harder in my opinion.

Think the standard of teams who came up last year was stronger than last year, but there is no reason why Norwich, QPR and whoever wins the playoffs can stay up. So back to answer of the question probably not given the fact that a team like West Ham is struggling.

Easier, the standard of this league is not what it used to be.

It's requiring much more points though. The points that the bottom 3 have at the minute would have been enough last year. It's a lot closer at the bottom, mainly because lower table teams are taking more and more points from the top 6 or so

Aye that's true but it also shows the fact that not many teams have been able to string any sort of consistency together.

    Fair point yeah.

Maybe it's just very very inconsistent and anything could bloody happen haha :p Much better this way though. More exciting.

The last game of the season is going to be very interesting just wish Man Utd didn't have the title wrapped up already.

This year i think the top teams have underperformed meaning the teams at the bottom have picked up several points they wouldn't normally

I think the standard at the top is worse than its been for years, but the standard at the bottom has improved making the table more compact and the league tighter.

Not really changed, us and West Brom have been here before and Blackpool have been a surprise package...

    I think easier.

Another question here though, if it is getting easier to stay up, Is the Premier League as good as the English press and most people seem to make out?

Agree with that, this season the top teams haven't been as good as in previous seasons and pretty much everyone has taken points from one another.

Hoping for another season like it :D

Personally with teams like Wigan, Birmingham, Stoke, Blackburn & Wolves I think the league is declining.

I think to say "it's easier to stay up" simply means a more balanced league, or at least more clubs with quality. So the optimistic in me says that there's overall more quality playing in the English leagues right now, if lets say...there are 25 "good" teams, instead of maybe only 15 who can really compete with one another.
As some have said, top 4-6 may have slipped back towards the pack a bit this year, but I prefer it be possible that on any given matchday a club can win against anyone.

Because us, Burnley and Pompey - docked 9 points - were such great teams.

I'd say easier. They go up knowing they need to strenghten, and usually strengthen. Whereas teams who finish around 16th/17th think minimal improvement will again be enough to stay up. Or a team who over achieves doesn't see the need to strengthen.
