Only 5 games in, and maybe i should have waited till around the dozen mark, but does anyone else see the same inconsistancies that have dogged us these past few seasons??? only playing half a game defensive errors lack of cutting edge I have to admit, i have no clue what, if anything needs changing, and maybe i'm just worrying about nothing, and too early at that, but just wondered if anyone else was feeling the same deja vu. I know we all have a tendancy to over react after a defeat, and to be honest i'm worst than most, but for the life of me, i can see little if no progress, and i feel in some areas we even seem to have gone backwards. your feedback would be interesting and im sure there will be many differing opinions, cheers boys
We have improved on last season in some aspects, the middle part of the game especially, runs off the ball, fluid passing, its just a shame that we havn't improved at either end of the pitch. Can't really badmouth the teams workrate though, they are really trying, and most articles from the match seem to say that Wolves "held on", which is only a positive for us, as it was not an easy victory for them, and lets be honest, it wasnt easy for Charlton or Blackburn either. Odd moves by Pearson imo to let Kennedy and Peltier go, leaving Konch and De Laet reletively unopposed.
How long should it take any bog standard manager with plenty of resources .... to get some kind of reasonable defence together in THIS the second division? other managers in this and other leagues have done it in far less time...we seem unable to under any circumstances...whoever is in charge or whoever plays....I have to say Im getting a bit fed up with it now...same kind of mistakes week in week out...season in season out... it is really no good forever pointing out and highlighting the errors after the event, then repeating them the following match..its gone on far too long now either the players are not listening or are not being coached correctly ...
We are still yet to see much of Zak Whitbread. It will take time but aslong as we remain patient Nigel will get us towards the top of the league
I will give NP 5 more games, but I feel we have gone backwards. Some of the selections do not add up,and to play two wide players away from home with KIng and Drinkwater central. Leaves us out numbered and light weight where it matters most. And do not start me on playing Waghorn before Beckford or letting Bamba go with out a ready replacement. Its a results industry NP needs to get it right and soon.
Just wondering, is he applying a similar playing style to when he was Leicester manager the first time round? Or has he made it different?
Sort of. He's stuck with 4-4-2 which has clearly been his favoured position, but isn't using a target man as much. However, he did tend to go 4-5-1 in a lot of games in his earlier spell with us, yet hasn't used this at all. We are probably playing in a more passing style, but lacking aggression.
Complaining about playing with wingers? Everyone was complaining that we didn't have any width last season and how we have people are complaining that we should play narrower? Playing Waghorn before Beckford - NP should play someone who was absolute ****e the last time he came on as a sub and is known for not giving a crap and is more likely then not going to Huddersfield? Letting Bamba go - firstly he was a rubbish defender, secondly he wanted to go and thirdly we have currently 4 senior CBs, two of them full internationals (albeit one of them is currently injured). How many do you want and who would you get? Lets sack our manager after 10 games because it is proven by our past history that having a new manager midway through a season will bring instant success
Aah fair enough. I was going to say that maybe he's trying to repeat his previous success but that doesn't look to be the problem. I just honestly think, and without being cynical because it's Pearson, he plays too negative. And you normally see it in your players. The main reason we suffered dire home form under him was because of his - and eventually Barmby's - insistence on playing with 1 striker up front at home. Fair enough, Pearson guided us to record breaking away form, but he seems stubborn to change his system when things aren't working.
We are playing much better, more width, passing and pressing but committing too many individual errors in defence and attack meaning that we've given away soft goals and not taking our chance that we create. People are blaming the manager for some reason instead of the players who make the mistakes which pisses me off to be honest.
I did not complain we needed wingers,Waghorn was **** in the league cup match and is way over weight and missed the best chance we had.Bamba is better than SSL. and Whitbread is a sick note. NP has had 35 games to date, spent around 7million and we are no better. What do you say just carry on and let him take us backwards?
I blame the manager because SSL wouldnt of marked as poorly as konch/RDL and beckford would of scored the chance waghorn had - he's picking the wrong players. simple.
We are playing some good football & for that I´m still optimistic...... BUT, & there´s always a but, if we make stupid school boy errors at the back & we don´t have 2 good finishers then it´ll be championship football for us again next season.
Now i have to be honest, and say i didn't see the after match interview on sky, but my florist supporting mate at work yesterday reckons he wathced it, and he says Nigel alluded to some off the field problems which are not helping our cause.?? I'm not sure if this is correct or not or just my mate mischief making, ive searched around and can find no mentio of it, so if anybody has any ideas or can enlighten us that would be great........
If you don't beat Burnley tomorrow, could our game at the King Power be Pearson's last in charge? With it being feeble little Hull, it could be Pearson's last shout, and that would definitely make it an adrenaline fueled game.
And then flip the coin the other way. We beat Burnley and Hull then our season and finally kick into life. We have won 2 out of 2 at home including Blackpool
I genuinely don't think Pearson has the tactical knowledge to do well in this league. I know he got you promoted from league one, however, as he was by trade a defender, this is also his Achilles heel. He places emphasis on clean sheets and defence and not enough on scoring or attacking. I'll be honest, I didn't really enjoy the football we played under him, it may be different for you as you have some decent forwards that can create chances. We never had a plan B, the football was at times restrictive. It's taken a while and some personnel changes to shake off that 'safety first' mentality, which I'm sure was deep rooted in most of the players mindset. Steve Bruce even alluded to it after the first 2 games. This league is a bloody hard one, whilst Pearson will be capable of getting a team in or around the play offs, I don't think he has enough game changing ideas. His subs at Hull used to piss me off no end, he'd never make a positive change, just a change to run down the clock.
