I'm not. He's been crap recently. Had a great start to the season, but I'm afraid it's gone tits up for Nathe. He was crap against Liverpool away and at Man Citeh he seemed too scared to take on their left back. He created the goal for Bony but after that he was extremely poor.

In the past he would have been guaranteed at least a place on the bench, even when he was in poor form. But now we also have Barrow and possibly Emnes so he has got a real battle for his place.

An in form Dyer would be first on my team sheet, but he's not in form and has got to get it back asap.

As it should be , you're in the team on merit not reputation .It's good that we can afford to rest players and have equal quality to come in,admittedly not in every position but in most imo.

WOuldn't disagree - let's hope it isn't for the same reasons Monk didn't play the Spanish contingent, eh! :emoticon-0105-wink:

Tiendalli for Taylor perhaps although he and Monetro area forming a tidy understanding between them, Shelvey's just come back from his ban and imo he was considered the better option against Palace ,perhaps after that game Monk has seen enough of him now to make a decision on Shevleys future this season .

Before kick off someone pointed out how rarely Ki passes to Taylor and it did seem to be the case. Definitely worth checking out the next time they are playing together (QPR probably) and suggested it was why Montero saw so little ball in the second half until the last few minutes.

Something is up here imo , Monk sat a healthy Dyer for the last 4 or so games at the end of last season , and after getting great results early in the new season from Dyer , a healthy Dyer is sitting again .Really got me wondering whats up behind the scenes

Nothing is "up". Quite simply, Dyer isn't producing the goods on the wing at the moment. Fit and healthy he may be, but attacking left backs down the right flank he is not. Barrow sizes up his man every time and, even if he doesn't always beat him, he makes the right back do something - forcing tackles, making him run, getting inside his head. I can remember Nathan being exactly the same in his first season in the Premier League, getting Evra subbed and A Cole sent off.

To be honest, I'm worried that Nathan's losing his pace. He's quick, but not as quick as he used to be...and most full backs are pretty quick these days too. I think he's just struggling to take them on the same way that he used to as he edges into his late 20s. He's going to have to adapt his game to suit the way that his body will now allow him to play.

Leaving out spot kicks Dyer is tied as our top scorer , even more goals than Siggy , probably a lot less minutes than Siggy and Bony also .A little slower maybe , but a lot better shot these days

He might have scored some goals at the start of the season, but as far as all-round wing play goes, he currently offers very little. Football is and always will be a 90 minute game. He must do more wing-play throughout matches to justify starting games ahead of other wingers. If he fancies himself as a number 10 or striker, he'll have to speak to Monk about that.

He's never been able to cross the ball, but his quick dribbling and ability to beat the man in front of him meant that he was vital to our team and the way we play. However, it seems that he has no confidence to beat his man and still can't cross the ball...so I'm not losing sleep if Dyer isn't currently starting or even on the bench.

Years of great play from Dyer , for a cheap transfer , and outscoring most everyone else on the team deserves a bit of credit ...Something it seems he gets little of from some , including Monk at times .Whereas Barrow and Montero are just begininig , Dyer has proven his fine play over half a dozen loyal seasons. One of my first pencilled in players , if only for the possibility of a one of his ""Awesome "" salutes . Just my opinion , as you have yours sir

Have to say that's a very critical assessment of one of our better players.
I still have no concerns about his crossing - no worse than anyone else bar Montero whose crosses tend to come in from the goal line but lack pace. One of the problems Dyer has with crosses is the lack of bodies in the box. Watching most wingers in the Prem they cross to at least two and often up to four players in the penalty area and therefore have a better chance of picking out a player, even then few teams score from high crosses any more.
Nathan was always a touchline hugger but Brendon had both wide men cut in and Laudrup and Monk have continued the pattern.

His all round play is as effective as anyone's and he offers more defending.

I agree with the point that football is a 90 minute game (a few minutes more really) but it is also 14 man team.

    BigK makes valid point.

Dyer is exceptional in that he has made a decent living at a position where he is deficient in the most important and fundamental skill of the position. The hallmark skill of all the top recognized wingers is that they can cross the ball .... Dyer basically can't. And by cross the ball I mean not just hoof it over into the middle but put it on to the center forwards head while on the run, time and time and time again. This is what really scares a center half - not so much the center forward - but the crosses that the center forward meets - no crosses, no threat.

The quality of crossing for us has for many seasons has been rank. Montero is certainly the best of the current crop from what I've seen to date. Making a full back look stupid means nothing if the final, critical piece of the play - the cross - is not there.

It got so bizarre for us before Montero that Routledge would play left wing and "cross" with the outside of his right foot - a neat party trick, but exactly how effective and threatening was that.

Very few in the Premier League can.
The majority of crosses are speculative and, like a Shelvey pass that finds Routledge, it is as much the skill of the recipient as the provider that makes the pass credible.
Because Montero picks up the ball and takes on defenders it gives our attack and mid-field time to get to the penalty area.
