Another for the Man U rotation of taking on players with zero plan in mind but lots of commercial value. Where Chelsea are heading too.
He’s only 28 so seems a strange decision for them go let him go on a free? He is a class player mind. His international stats are crap mind. Not that it matters.
I know a bloke who’s just become his country’s all time record scorer at Intl level. I’d swap him for dybalas arse hair and it’d still be more of a threat.
His goal scoring record has been about 1/3 or 4 in his last 4 seasons. Not worth the wages he'd likely want. No thanks.
He isn't an out and out striker though, more an attacking midfielder. Bruno and big Joe holding with him in the hole and a new striker would be great. Can play from the right cutting in aswell.
That's the thing, I think Howe and Ashworth really need to figure how they want to play and therefore which type of players they want to target. The danger of having big funds is its like a kid going to sweet shop and wanting to buy everything up regardless. That's where lots of the big clubs get it wrong. They see a big name player and just snap them up without considering whether they 'fit' or what the plan is. Especially the likes of Man United. No idea what their transfer policy is, but its always short-term focused. They sign the wrong players just because they are in the news at that particular time. We need a solid transfer strategy before we start spending. I'd be quite happy if we purposely overlook some 'big name' players if it's because Eddie and Dan have a proper plan in place and know who (or at least the type of player) they want. That's a much better sign than the club throwing funds to get so-called stars that don't fit, just because you can.
I agree but i think it would be pretty crazy to turn down Dybala on a free if he wanted to come, he would normally cost around 50 or 60 million. I don't know for sure but i don't think he is a bad egg. He will probably want to go to a team in the champs league next season though anyway.
I think they both seem very clear in their thinking. I think they will do their due diligence. What is an unknown is what pressure / influence those above will want / have. We've got to do this properly though. City are a really good example. They haven't made many mistakes in the market. You have to start with getting the right personalities in as the last thing you need is difficult types on big contracts messing with the team spirit. I always thought Dybala seemed pretty sound. Definitely has been a good player but not quite sure how we would fit him in. I don't really think he fits in with Eddie's style.
And that's exactly what I mean. Do we go for him ayway because he's good, or avoid if he doesn't fit the plan?
We might see a lot of that! We did incredibly well to get Tripps and Bruno in this window, especially with a genuine relegation threat. If we stay up it might attract some for the wrong reason, i.e. one last payout knowing we have cash. But we'll still get some wanting instant success and demanding champions league football, which we can't offer. So we'll miss out on some targets, regardless of the cash available.
100% avoid if he doesn't fit the plan. We've got to try and be as clinical as poss in our recruitment. No issue with spending big fees but it's got to be for the right guy. Otherwise you end up like Man U with a squad full of players that don't really work together / are not quite good enough and it's impossible to shift them to allow you to move forward.
