Just heard on Talk Sport this morning that Dwight is saying he's being overlooked for coaching/managers jobs cos of the colour of his skin. If he really had any proof you would think he would go legal? He also wasn't overlooked as a player was he? From an outsider looking in he has no significant experience of coaching so, if I were a chairman why would I employ him to look after my team in a game where the price of success and failure is equally high? A good ex player doesn't make a good coach and I'm a believer that everyone has to start at the bottom and work their way up whatever their race. Look at Dennis Bergkamp and Tony Adams with their coaching roles on the continent for an example of really top players doing it the right way. Look at Gary Neville for an example of doing it the wrong way. Shearer didn't deserve a 'big job' and probably applied for quite a few so I have a feeling it's more an experience based assessment of DY's capabilities.
My immediate reaction is that he's whinging. But there are still some real dinosaurs in football club ownership, so there's always the chance he has a point. It depends which jobs he's expecting to get with no managerial experience. The reports say he's applied for the Villa job on numerous occasions and not been interviewed. Well what do you expect mate, they're in massive trouble and need an experienced manager at the helm.
Ex-players whinging about getting a managers job will only continue to grow. If Yorke was serious about working in coaching/management, he would get a job as a coach of a youth team, maybe at villa or anywhere and start working his way up. Guardiola did it at Barca, Steve Bruce, Mark Hughes, or they have come in from abroad where they have done top jobs, Bilic for instance or Klopp. There is a trend though, PL appointed managers and even Championship managers have experience, they've done the groundwork and for the majority it hasn't just fallen in their laps. There will be more and more egotistical players thinking they deserve a management job just because of who they are. Its an over saturated market, not all footballers can become managers. Using colour as an excuse is pathetic and yorke should be ashamed, Harvey price ashamed
Difficult to comment. What type of jobs is he applying for? Is he applying for roles at the top end i.e. PL. If so he's a ****ing moron if he thinks they are just going to give him the keys to their multi million pound business just because he once played for Man U successfully. What is his coaching badges situ also? If he is trying to get into the game at a low level, has the badges, has a clear plan of how he would go about it, has done some shadowing/travelling to learn about coaching, then yeah maybe he is hitting a racial roadblock. They do exist. Just using the talksport soundbyte to claim a wrong seems a bit lowly to me. I could be wrong and he may be experiencing unfair treatment but I'd imagine he is looking for a shortcut.
Agree. IMHO he was using the radio station to put himself of the shop window. Maybe he should put a call into Chrissy Hughton to ask how to become a highly respected football manager... CH spent a long time learning his trade and it is paying dividends for him now.
Dwight Yorke playing the race card to try and disguise the fact he has NO coaching experience. Utterly lame and this sort of thing needs to be looked at very carefully. Perhaps Dwight should contact Roberto about how he managed to get jobs in football despite being non-white?
Chairmen are worried about their other halves if they appoint Giggs I think... that and he seems to have a the personality of a cardboard box that's been out in the rain for a week.
It's hard because you don't know what's been said to him etc. Had similar discussion on our board about ex players trying to walk into jobs, mainly ex English pros. Not many go and work wth youth teams, or go manage at league 2 level and try work their way up. Like most things they want to walk into a top level job. It's almost like if they haven't got a job by time they're 40 they give up. Retire at 35, go away do the hard graft build up contacts throughout the game with other coaches and by time 40 go get a Lowe league job and work way up.
Whilst I appreciate the use of the word " coloured " is not correct or appropriate when relating to a person's appearance, Will Scarlet and Phil Brown have both managed to have successful careers.
Reading about this earlier and he appears to think that he should have a least got an interview for the Villa job, if he really wanted to do this then he should start off coaching and do some years getting experience at coach and assistant level building up his cv, but then why do that when you can just say you don't get a chance cause you is black.
Agree here. There's a tried and trusted path to management which hasn't done Fergie or Jose any harm. The Rooney rule which they use in the US is a total joke IMHO and I don't wanna see that here. It basically says that a team has to interview minority candidates for every coaching job. If this was applied in the UK, loads of unqualified coaches would be ''interviewed' for job wasting everyone's time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooney_Rule
He may have a point i mean after all he didnt even get an interview at wallsall ,bolton, hereford, spartans.ect ect.surely he tried the lower league's first. Whats that you say he didnt !oh well i might ask fenwicks if our lass can get on the board of directors .after all she shops there loads why should she work on the shop floor
