Me and the wife are coming up to Durham for a couple of nights later this month. I haven't been for years. Can anyone recommend some restaurants that are worth a visit ? Any type - Italian, Chinese, Indian, Thai etc are all ok. Thanks in advance

There are a few decent restaurants in Durham City Centre. I would recommend the Lebanese on Bailey Street (very close to the Cathedral) called Lebaneat. I think they have a takeaway shop at the bottom of Durham. Food is very decent (tried a few things in there ) and if you are in to wine, try the House Red.

    Thanks for that Farnboro...
Just to clarify it is Durham City we are coming to, as opposed to County Durham.

Lebaneat is a great shout. That’s my favourite takeaway when I’m home. Also recommend Ajiwai if you enjoy Japanese food.

Dunno whether it’s still there, but we used to like Cellar Door, Saddler St.
Good nosh, no riff-raff. You’d need to book.

    I'm a pauper mate.
My young lady received a voucher upon her retirement and we've been trying to get through for a while.
Think it's going to end up being a lunchtime soiree followed by a pleasant afternoon sampling various hostelries.
    It could get messy. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Yes, that's been the problem, we've looked a few times but had something else on or just not a convenient time.
They do say good things come to those who wait...
...so we are going to upgrade and go for the wine pairing.
As I said earlier it could end up getting a bit messy :emoticon-0140-rofl:

That's what the Mrs and I did upgraded to the wine pairing. Was very nice for a place that at first glance looks very ordinary. Food and wine were excellent. Enjoy. :emoticon-0148-yes:

If you're going to Lebaneat in the Bailey, have a look next door (ISH) at Shaheens Indian Restaurant, it's been there forever, but still my favourite Indian food in Durham City. Well worth a visit, but book first. Enjoy.

Just back from our stay in Durham. Had a great time. We ate at Lebaneat and Tango. Both suberb - so thanks very much for the recommendations. Would definitely go back again next time!
Had a look round the Cathedral and what a humbling experience that was. The commemorative plaque to the Durham Light Infantry was inspirational- how many battles they were involved in. Made me realise what a cushy life I’ve been lucky enough to have.
