One for Flyer ..... Queens Park Rangers defender Richard Dunne hopes to earn a contract extension at Loftus Road by helping the club win promotion back to the Premier League. The Republic of Ireland centre-half has been formidable for Rangers since his arrival in the summer, guiding Harry Redknapp's men to 12 clean sheets this term. However, the 34-year-old, who spent last season sidelined by a groin injury, is out of contract at the end of the campaign. Rangers, who currently sit second in the Sky Bet Championship, level on points with Leicester City but holding an inferior goal difference, are reluctant to offer new deals until their status for next season is confirmed. Dunne, who dropped out of the top flight for the first time in his career when he left Aston Villa, is hoping to return to the Premier League with QPR. Speaking to Get West London, he said: "I would love to get a new contract and play in the Premier League again. "That's the ideal scenario, but it all depends on what happens over the course of the season. "We'll try and get the club promoted, then I'm sure there's a few of us that will be looking for new contracts when the time's right. "It will be a lot later in the season when everyone can start thinking about next year." Meanwhile, Dunne still harbours international ambitions and has no plans to retire, despite missing Ireland's friendlies against Latvia and Poland last month. Dublin-born Dunne is relishing the prospect of working with the new Ireland management team of Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane. "Playing for your country is a real honour and something that you can't pass up on," he added. "As long as I'm picked I would love to keep on playing. "I'll have a chat with the manager and see what his plans are. I don't even know if he wants me or if they want to go with someone else. "I had Martin for a season at Villa. We had a really good year when he was there and I really enjoyed working with him. I'm sure he's going to do a great job." http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9058697/?
Can you imagine him up against the likes of Suarez, aguero or many tricky forward. If shouldn't even be considered if we go up.
This, alphabetical only comes into it with the exact goals scored/conceded and then it would be a playoff at the end of the season if it involves promotion/relegation. Not sure what they'd do if it was first and second tied at the end of the season.
Oh right, wouldn't it be awful to miss out on... can't even say it, we'll have to get our goals tally up without delay.
Wouldnt be a bad shout as a defensive coach for the team but dont think he gonna get a new contract if we do go up? Been immense for us this season
True to form Flyer, your crystal ball has just one dimension. How refreshing it must be hold such simplistic views.
I disagree with you, as per usual He has played against these players with success before As long as he is fit, he could play another couple of years at the top level He would need someone fairly mobile along side though
I don't think there are many central defenders in the world who could handle Suarez at the minute. I still think he would fare better than Bassong and Bennett did for Norwich against him the other night should we be fortunate enough to go up though.
I haven't posted in a while but I had to respond to this. I'm willing to bet that you have never actually played the game of football above under 8s. I'll bet that you have spent your life sitting behind a computer playing play station and xbox. I don't think I have ever read such rubbish. If you knew anything about the game you wouldn't post such utter rubbish. Look at his career and see who he has played with and against. He has ten times more international caps than the rest of our entire squad put together. I am finding it increasingly harder and harder to read your rubbish. Get off your ass, get away from your computer and learn something useful about the game that you claim to be such an expert on. Anybody with a morsel of experience in the game would never contemplate such rubbish .
You'd want his experience and know-how in the PL, as NUTS says he has played with and against the best and his presence and professionalism would be invaluable...
Alex Bruce seemed to handle him just fine on Sunday and he's our 5th choice centre back, so it just shows that other than them needing to be disciplined enough to be able to follow instructions it's down to how you set your team up to deal with players like that rather than who those players are.
It was a great one to be at. I don't know if the media coverage showed it or picked up on it, but the way we had Meyler and Bruce specifically marking Gerrard and Suarez took them right out the game, and that left it easy enough for our good technical players to beat the rest of their clueless side. I don't see why even if you played them this season you couldn't do the same thing using Barton and someone at centreback. I was shocked that Norwich hadn't paid more attention to our game given we got the result we did and looked pretty comfortable doing it (once McGregor made that save at 1-1).
NUTS, I've said it more than once before but I'm convinced Flyer only started to follow football in the last couple of years. The reason I've long since come to that conclusion is down the kind of wording he uses. Some of the phrases he uses reminds me of my ex bird who knew nowt about the game and came out with the same kind of stuff. His best one still has to be: "Goalkeepers should have bouncier stances"
I too think Dunne needs to stay from both a his contribution and for possible future benefit to the club. If and when we get promoted, after what happened last time, I can't help think that there are many valid reasons where we should try and hold onto as many of this squad as possible. The less we bring in ( except where warranted ) .......... the better team harmony / cohesion, etc will be. In short, a small tweak here or there but nothing major. If we were to completely revamp the club again, maybe we should just bite the bullet and re-hire Hughes again because the result will be just as bad. At least with Hughes back on board, we fans wouldn't need to be second guessing our fate. Every team that has won promotion and that has goes stupid on following transfer market have suffered the same fate. Let's learn from the past.
