Dunne backs Doyle to lift QPR promotion hopes

    Garry Doyle – 04 February 2014

Richard Dunne believes Kevin Doyle's decision to move from Wolves to QPR will resurrect the Irishman's career as well as acting as a catalyst for the London club's promotion charge.
The Wexford man moved to Loftus Road last Friday before scoring on his debut the following day – his first goal in over three months. For Dunne, the renewal of an old friendship has been further sweetened by the arrival of a striker he rates highly, and one QPR needed after their top scorer, Charlie Austin, picked up a season-ending injury.

"The manager and the chairman have done very well in the transfer window and it has given the place a lift," said Dunne.

"I know Kevin. He is an honest player and gives 100pc every game, goes for every tackle and every header. We miss that with Charlie being out and Kevin is a great replacement. His performance on Saturday is a sign of what is to come."

Doyle certainly hopes so – and while the burden of replacing a player as good as Austin rests on his shoulders, it is a situation he can cope with.

"I needed to get my career back on track and while there is pressure here, I like this kind of pressure, fighting for promotion rather than relegation."

Battling to avoid the drop remains Shane Long's priority despite his January switch to Hull City, but the difference now is that he is playing at a club, and under a manager, who really believes in him. "Shane is a delight," said Hull boss Steve Bruce.

"There is a lot of time when professionals are in the limelight and they do things that make us all cringe but he is one I know for a fact that lives his life properly.

"It helps we've got a few mad Irishmen with him to settle in. He knows the group and will be a great addition to us.

"His pace, his attitude, his quality makes him a very difficult player to oppose. That's why I went to the chairman, knocked on the door and asked to get him."

Thought he played well for first 45mins on Saturday, but faded away in second half - needs to get fully match fit then hopefully he can perform for full 90mins. Don't expect him to get the amount of goals that Charlie did but, Saturday apart, we weren't smashing three or four goals every game anyway

Agree, Doyle faded in second half, but I thought that was more to do with having to help out in defence, lack of delivery, and match sharpness.

    But extremely encouraging performance.

Zamora won't be talking to Dunne after this. Forgot, he doesn't talk to anyone anyway.

Spot on KPD, Kevin did not have any sort of delivery in the 2nd half.

I thought he was classy, clever runs, headers and movement. Looks like a smart player too.And finally someone that can win a header!. He did drop off a bit but not suprising considering how hard he worked and the fact thats his first game for us. For the first time in a while we actually look dangerous up top. 4 new strikers gives us a few options.
