http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/istanbul-hero-quits-football He's finally hung up his boots, in the same year we've seen Hyypia do the same. 2 Liverpool legends (tier 2/3) that played a huge part in the 2005 champions league.
My favourite Dudek moment came in Istanbul in 2005,when he walked up to Shevchenko and looked him straight in the eye and went to hand him the ball and then deliberately dropped it.Thats what you call messing with someones head.It will go down in folklore like Brucies jellylegs in 1984,That year it was the ''Dudek Octopus''.
I remember that, I preferred the bit before that when Carra was stood telling Dudek to do the spaghetti legs when Gerrard walks up to Carra and say "Carra stop it he doesn't understand what you're talking about." Dudek's second save against Shevchenko though was a master stroke and one of the best saves I've seen.
I remember that,He spoke about it afterwards and he said he didn't know how he made that save.Maybe it was divine inspiration or instinct. As for Carra,I''ve seen the ''Steven Gerrard My Story DVD'' and Stevie says ''Carra what are you on about, you know nothing about goal-keeping''. Have you heard the story about when the celebrating was going on,Carra was panned out on the pitch totally exhausted. Then there was the mix up on who to hand the trophy to.Carra went beserk,''Give it to him''.It was similar to 1981 when Phil Thompson more of less said ''For **** sake just give me the trophy''. Both Thommo and Stevie both kept the trophy in their hotel room.Only Thommo brought it to his local to have kids photographed with it. Two Liverpudlians have captained European Cup winning teams. Now tell me again what part of Manchester is Newcastle,Denmark and Cardiff?
Legend. I wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do now he's retired. His last game was a 8-1 victory for Real Madrid. Not a bad game to finish on!
He's a top bloke, and deserved a decent send-off and he was brilliant against United in the 2003 Carling Cup final. The ''Don't Bomb Iraq-Nuke Manchester'' banner was class too. There was another one You can keep Veron. You can keep Keane. We've a superstar Our number 17. Stevie G.
Not his biggest fan generally as he let in quite a few howlers and I was never confident when we had him in goal. BUT! That performance will put him down in history as one of our legends. Deserved it, he was brilliant. All the best.
