Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Chelsea's Didier Drogba is willing to take a pay cut to fulfil a dream of ending his career at Barcelona. They say the striker, whose contract ends this summer, wants to join the Catalan giants and will lower his wage demands to do so.

Drogba hasn't played at the very top of European football for much of his career and as such it was thought he'd be looking to maximise his earning potential with a move to China, Russia or the Far East. However, it seems that was doing a disservice to the player and football ambitions could be at the forefront of his decision.

He's been excellent when Chelsea have needed him recently, giving everything to the cause and Chelsea may look to offer him a deal to stay. Mundo Deportivo say the only problem with a proposed move to Barcelona is that the striker wants a two year contract and Barca wouldn't be prepared to offer the 34 year old that.

They say his agent has even offered a 1+1 scenario which would see Drogba get a one year deal with the option for a second one to automatically be activated on appearance or goal clauses. Mundo claim 'Drogba confessed to a journalist friend who went to Barcelona for the semis of Champions that he was impressed with the Nou Camp, and would love to play alongside Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.'

As always it's not clear how much of this is paper talk, another Catalan newspaper today claims that Barcelona have Fernando Llorente as their first choice target for striker and have Robin van Persie as a back-up option. It can't all be true, but some of it probably is.

Can't realy see Barthelona wanting to sign Drogba at this late stage of his career, yet more media b/s. Hope its true about Van Rapist though seems more likely as i can't see him wanting to stay at le scum for yet another trophy less season

Well they did take Henry at a late stage, so not impossible, but if he was looking to take a 1+1 deal then why wouldn't he do that with us?

I knowthat is probably a stupid question when you put mercenary footballers in one group and football in the other but...

We are offering 1 and he wants 2...easy solution...

Really cant see it. Barca really doesn't suit his style at all. I'm sure he'd be well impressed having corners players short and messi and Xavi playing 38900 passes to each other for 90 mins.

As most of you said after playing them, Barca really need a plan B. Drogba could be part of it. They are also changing coaches this year, the new coach may have different views on how Barca should play. On the other hand, surely such a dramatic signing would only be made after the new coach is appointed, so such talk now is silly.
