That time of year where the debate on zero limit is discussed again. Good arguments by both sides of this debate. For zero tolerance: Safety should come first Against zero tolerance: It has been proven to NOT reduce DD accidents or increase convictions in other countries. Something that wasn't covered in the debate, was for all those convicted of drink driving, how far over the current limit were they? My point being are these convictions of people that would have blatantly broken the law anyway, so no amount of limit would have mattered. Therefore you are just penalising someone that wants to go to a rural pub to have one social drink or should it be a clear no drink policy behind the wheel? Libby please ignore this thread
Nothing wrong with having a pint and driving but anymore and it starts creeping...I've had 2 but that was a while ago and I've eaten so one more won't hurt...I'll just have a half then and I should be ok. Stuff like that.
They want to reduce it to no drink at all. The guy on the other side of the debate made a good point that reducing it to zero does not see an increase in convictions or a reduction in accidents. Well firstly we know we don't have enough coppers to enforce it, but as i raised, are the current convictions against people blatantly over the limit, hence you are risking criminalising people that have never broken the law and never caused an accident after one pint.
Easy way to remember it mate, each unit equates to one hour. So if you have an average strength beer you could be looking at 4 hours.
Yes. So it would affect your ability to drive the next morning, and probably rightly so even under the current level if you had 8 pints, regardless of units, it's common sense.
I'm not so sure you are correct on this on mate. So a person who drinks 4 pints a day is likely to be constantly over the limit?
It would also mean having one pint late night means you would still blow positive in the morning. Which is why we don't have a zero limit I believe.
Wahaay - you can call me PhDeeDee or Loony Lefty. Those are average times taken for an average of 8 people to return to zero alcohol level for 1-4 standard drinks (US std drink = 0.6fluid oz of pure alcohol = 12fl oz of beer) (so 1 drink = 2 hrs and 4 drinks = 7hrs). Now sod off you absolute bastards you post bollocks and don/t check your sources proeprly. You will never amount to more than a waste of space. https://www.verywellmind.com/alcohol-metabolism-key-to-alcohols-dangers-66524
