Obviously the money we got for him bought us Alisson and Virgil and I wouldn't change that for anything. I thought he gave us his best until the Barcelona move looked like it was on and then his back suddenly went. I can't recall whether or not he would have been cup tied with regard to the CL or even if the same rules applied then. Maybe his agent was giving him bad advice, it happens. He's a nice quiet lad who must be feeling very lonely atm. I realise now I'm probably the only one who thinks this
Firmino summed it up best by saying why would you want to leave. Fans love me, massive club and playing well
I dont bear any particular bad blood towards him. There are very few players who I genuinely get upset about when they leave. We are quite happy to turn on them and discard them for the next big thing, it's only par for the course that some players wish to move on for what they believe are bigger and brighter futures. I can only really think off two who left that made my piss boil. Mcmanaman & Torres.
Torres I agree with. Wasn't that bothered by Mcmanaman but don't know why. I was most upset with Fowler's departure but that was the club's doing, not Robbies.
When robbie left I was devastated. But as you say, it was the club not him. I think mcmanaman was the first time I'd experienced a player I loved leaving of their own accord.
Agree with Macca - I thought we were the bad guys with Torres but that just my op Defo Owen - don’t dislike him for it but defo don’t have any respect for the guy
I never felt the love for owen that I felt for robbie or torres. He never really felt like one of us. I think that's the key some players the club just envelopes, they become part of the fabric of the club, you love them and you feel that they love you. Suarez for example, although a great player and I difnt want to lose him, I always new he was here to pick up a wage and would move on if the opportunity presented itself.
I was going to mention Owen but decided not to since a lot on here seem to still hold a big grudge towards him, particularly to do with his decisions after leaving us which I feel impacts their memories of the time ge left.
This. More interested in playing for England or eventually trying his luck abroad than what happened with Liverpool
I was gutted when Torres left. However I think Suarez is the one I was most gutted about because we had nearly won it and when he left it felt like we would be going into freefall. Also, in my opinion Suarez is the best player we have ever had at Liverpool
I suppose there was also a realisation that Suarez was/is abit mercenary. It did feel alittle like a kick in the teeth the way he engineered his exit
