Interesting contribution in the Program from Diego Poyet. He tells of the problems of having Dad working oop north, and of his desperation to go out on loan to get some first-team football and "help the gaffer notice me". I have never seen the gaffer or his assistant at the under-21 games, which explains why he has not noticed Diego, but surely Jason Euell will have told him how good Diego is? He also pays great tribute to Nathan Jones, saying he was "gutted" when he left for Brighton. Having watched the way Jones got the best out of all his players I'm not surprised, and I'd love to see him return as Charlton manager. When anyone says "Yes but who do we replace him with?" I think "Nathan Jones".
What have we got to lose at least putting Poyet on the bench at Ipswich ? Jackson has been an absolute stalwart for us over the last two years, but yesterday was just painful to watch. Cousins has proved that we need fresh legs in the middle. Its not as if Poyet is being held back by talent.....he is being held back by Evina, Stewart and Green FFS.
Gotta agree with this... Yesterday we were so short of options on the bench we were forced to play Dervite, maybe against Sheffield Wednesday a team known for their physicality it would have been a bad idea to put Poyet in, yet against Ipswich or definitely Oxford... Give the kid a chance From reading it definitely sounds like he's getting impatient and we should be grateful for the father he's got trying to keep him patient... Hopefully we're not looking at another Josh Wright here
He's better than Josh Wright, A4L. If Stephens is off Poyet should resume his midfield partnership with Cousins, no harm in playing them together against Oxford.
Cheers for confirming that Diego is the better player FHB, my worry is though... Josh Wright got impatient at not being given a chance and stormed off joining Scunthorpe, I seriously hope that Poyet doesnt go and do the same thing
I think there is a big difference between Poyet's and Wright's family background and upbringing. Poyet may not choose what is best for Charlton, but he will at least have the sense, or be guided, to choose what is best for himself. Not throw his career down the pooper fro a few quid in the short-term.
Surprised the club sanctioned an article in the programme that implies that the manager doesn't know what's going on with the kids (apologies if t does not do that as I have not read it). Not seen Poyet but he cannot be a worse option than Jacko or Pritchard at the moment. Put him in and see what he can do.
Diego says "I really am desperate to make my debut and play some league football to help the gaffer notice me." Make of that what you will, but I have been at several U-21 games and haven't seen The gaffer there.Maybe I missed him. And it was on the pre-season tour that he noticed Cousins.
