NUFC players have always talked about the amazing atmosphere within the club, meaning they are all a close bunch and very rarely a falling out.

I respect all of our players for sticking with us throughout the Championship campaign, but what names come to mind when you hear about this amazing dressing room atmosphere?

For me, it's Nolan and Barton. Two players who I believe will not be here next season. We can't guarantee how good possible new signings will be, so to lose them for a player they think is better is a risk. Hopefully it isn't the case but we have to be realistic, if it works then great, if not then it's just another thing to hate MA for.

When you get rid of the above players, what does that do for the rest of the team like Coloccini, Tiote, Gutierrez etc... Does it make them feel happier because we are improving the team and they are part of it? Or will they fear these players ruining that atmosphere?

It's such a small thing, but it goes a long way and I always love hearing about the atmosphere in the dressing room.

    What do you think?

I always imagine Nolan and Barton at the centre of it, with Tiote being a bit of a lad as well as he learns more English.

Having a good dressing room has been vital for us, first for promotion and then survival in Prem League.

Nolan and Barton are leaders and very verbal, something a team needs.

One of the reason I didnt want Zoggy back is that I didnt think he would fit in the dressing room atmosphere.

I dont see Collo or any other's having the influence of Barton or Nolan

  5. I expect Colo and Steven Taylor to be big figures in there aswell. Colo is 29 and intelligent, i reckon he'll be a voice aswell as Taylor, i expect him to be a typical geordie ruffian in the dressing room ;)

I would put Smith in there as well. I think he would be a big influence in the changing room...also likely to go.

Remember reading a Krul interview, says Tiote jokes about with his English, saying he "can speak it when he feels like it", and that Taylor is "absolutely crackers".

  8. It's just a shame that Nolan and Barton, definitely our most important players this season, are being stalled on their contracts/

Agree it's a pity the club couldnt meet Barton half way, but Ashley policy is to buy young players then sell them on for a profit.

Lovenkrands is alway said of being good in the dressing room. He may be crap, but he is better than Ameobi and is good in the dressing room. Wouldn't want him to leave. Also Harper is a big figure in the dressing room.

I've heard that Smith is quite a big character in the dressing room. One of the biggest actually.

In football teams change every year, if you don't you stand still. Its up to the Manager and staff to ensure that the siprit within the club is as it should be. A "good" dressing room helps, but good players who want to win football matches is the most important thing. When you start winning, like we did in the Championship the dressing room spirit develops from there.

I read that differently mind, I think he was offered one in Jan but it wasn't good enough so they haven't offered a new one. Hence Barton saying "I can't sign a contract if there's nothing to sign" (meaning the one offered a while ago isn't good enough.)

I read it like this as well tbh.

On the original topic though, in a squad of 25-30 players including the fringe players there will always be more than just one or two stand out characters. You get the impression that on the pitch Barton has the biggest driving force and pure determination to never give up but I reckon in the dressing room there will always be jokey/funny/chirpy lads. It's not like most other professions, they're all doing what they love for a living at a club they've all chosen to be at so morale shouldn't be an issue.
