"Sounders and U.S. national team forward Clint Dempsey is undergoing medical evaluations for an irregular heartbeat. He has been ruled out of this Sunday’s match at Portland, and there is no clear timeline for either a more specific diagnosis or a potential return to action." As our old friend DR would point out, Clint's a fighter. As Cottager says, let's hope the news is all good for him.
At least they have caught it before something horrendous happened like collapsing mid game, if the worse happened and he was told to stop playing right now he would retire after a great career and will still always be remembered as a Fulham hero! Here's hoping its precautionary and he is fine!
Slightly better, if cautious, news today about Deuce "Almost three weeks after it was announced that he would be sidelined indefinitely to undergo a medical evaluation for an irregular heartbeat, Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey made a return to the practice field on Wednesday at Starfire Soccer Complex. But although Dempsey’s return to training can be considered a positive development, a timeline for when he could be back on the field has yet to be determined. “[Dempsey] has had a procedure to address some of the issues associated with [the irregular heartbeat],” Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey told reporters following Wednesday's practice. “We are not at liberty to disclose anything further from a medical perspective. I will add that we are cautiously optimistic that he could return to play this season. So to be clear, he’s been cleared to return to training, to exercise, but he has not been medically cleared to play yet. We don’t have a timetable for that and we won’t because we’re going to prioritize his health. When Clint feels better and the doctors feel that it’s safe, then we will consider his return to playing.” Lagerwey stressed that the Sounders will focus on monitoring how the 33-year-old US national team striker progresses before making a decision on a next step. This season, Dempsey has scored eight goals and delivered two assists in 17 regular-season appearances." Sounds like his club have got the right attitude in not wanting to rush him back without being sure that it's the best thing for him. Given that he's probably one of their biggest names and that the stats above suggest he was in good form, that's very good to hear. Good luck, Clint.
Not good. The Deuce stopped training earlier in the week and has now been ruled out for the rest of the season. His club said: "We simply haven't got to a point where we were comfortable that there was a realistic chance of Dempsey returning this year. As we said in the first round of comments, we are not comfortable putting any kind of pressure on this." "His return to play is not important relative to his health, both short- and long-term. We feel by ruling him out today it puts us in the best position to get him back, hopefully for the start of the 2017 season."
