If you were hoping for an interesting thread, I apologise in advance. It's no secret that we've drawn very few games this season, the figure currently standing at only 5 draws from 42 games. The reasons for this I am not too sure, perhaps an all or nothing approach from Bruce in many games? With 3 points from a win being so valuable, draws are often seen as being as bad as a loss. However, on further inspection, we could be about to set the record for the fewest draws in a Championship season (I only checked the last 8/9 years tbh), exhilarating news I know. The closest I can seem to find is Scunthorpe got 6 when they were relegated in the 10/11 season. Another contender is 'Boro this season, they've drawn even less than us, with 4. Top 2 sides tend to get around 10 draws a season, and Cardiff are on 8 at the minute, although others have had far more. When QPR won the league in 10/11 they drew 16 games, and Norwich, who finished 2nd, drew 15. Meanwhile, when we got promoted in 07/08 we drew 12. If you look at the likes of Brighton they've only lost 9 games this season, whilst we've lost 13, yet we're 12 points ahead of them, so they've obviously drawn too many games. So, any other theories on why we have drawn so few games? Deliberate ploy by Bruce to never settle for draws and risk losing a point to go for all 3, or just a mere co-incidence?
You've pretty much touched on the main reasons. Brucey sets the team up to win. It is basically win or lose and our form at the moment with it alternating between win/lose (Ipswich being an exception). Draws are useless, don't help goal difference, and are only worth 1 point. Draws only really matter in the last 3/4 games with teams fighting for promotion or relegation and even then it feels as though it's two points dropped. Bruce obviously adopted a 'get out the Championship quick' approach and it's paid off.
it is strange sometimes ... if we get beat tomorrow, a lot of people would be gutted.. but if we had drawn at ipswich and then wolves they would have been saying, happy with that, cant knock 2 away draws...always thought might as well win one , lose one in this type of situation, any extra a nice bonus.
