To be fair to scunny I think they actually deserved the draw, I feel they dictated most of the play in the first half but with us having the clearer chances as a whole. This was the first game I have been too this season and I was impressed with everyone except for Hayes. His first touch was poor today and he has a clear lack of pace (when running through clear on goal), but everyones entitled to a bad game so will judge him on future displays. A brilliant game either way mulitple chances and saves and overall good play by both teams a great advert for League 1 football. But people booing at the end was ridiculous, also, anyone else think Peterborough will get 10 goals against Ipswich 6 at the moment.
Scunny did look fairly decent. We defended badly for the goals and a draw was fair. Hayes definitley looks decent; I thought his touch was alright but his overall play was very frustrating - it seemed clear he has talent, but just couldn't seem to use it today. Completley bemused by Powell's substitutions - absolutley ridiculous
I agree. the best form of defence is offensive, and taking BWP off at the end was so unnecessary. The 5 at the back didn't even work
A fair result but we should never have blown a 2-0 lead Powell just seemed to make subs for the heck of it I always try and put ourselves in the oppositions shoes in situations like this Would we have come back from 0-2 down away at Scunthorpe? not a chance. Nothing more frustrating than drawing games where you've led for so long, its not so bad if you salvage a point from being behind but although a draw was a fair result, 2-0 up you should see the game out every time.
Yes a fair result. I'm also concerned about Hayes, and if there is to be genuine competition for places our other strikers should be given a chance, especially if Green starts, because to me he looks the best winger we've had since Robbo, and we want strikers who will get into the right positions for his crosses. CP must stop bringing on Doc as an extra defender, it just upsets the balance of the team.
Had the penalty been given - as it should have been - 3-2 would have been a fair result. The ref however had a very poor game.
Sounded like Scunthorpe were giving it the big one at the end (mind you, I was following the BBC live texts which is never much of a reflection). However, to draw 2-2 after leading 2-0 is very frustrating. Still, lot of football still to play. We need to learn from this and go on (and up!).
the ref had a shocker, wasn't sure if it should have been a pen i've seen those given but I think the initial contact may have been outside the box not giving us a free kick for the blatant foul on Green which then led to him retaliating and getting himself in the book was a disgrace, that ref should be packed off to Sunday League Football if he didn't think that was a foul.
The foul for the pen was initially made outside the box, but the ref on the whole was a joke! Morrison was superb at the back looks a really good find! Green looked impressive, got a great delivery on him. Lucky bot to be sent off for his tackle, although how he didn't get a free kick before I will never know! The linesman was a yard away FFS
Yes, it was a ridiculous decision to not award the free kick when Green was dragged down, but Green was very lucky, as that challenge had 'straight red' written all over it...
as said on previous thread didnt make it today but was being kept informed was i right in thinking barcham was the gillingham forward we were after?i think from what i here powell played 4-5-1 didnt curb used to play that way?i think we should have gone for the third basically thats what i would have done but in fairness i think a draw is a good result as scunthorpe are a physical side and i think i think be up near the top half.
A note on the booing, I think that was definitely aimed at the officials, who had a major shocker. Had a good view of the Euell incident and to be fair I thought it was outside the box, but other than that the officiating was atrocious. Also I think I should highlight Hollands who had a storming game. Looks calm and composed and a real engine in midfield. I'm very frustrated as I cant see the logic in trying to play out a 2-1 result so defensively, it just does not work enough of the time to warrant it being a valid tactic. Powell said on the OS that that is how players react, but he should be there screaming at them to play higher, at least giving the team space to keep the ball rather than pinging it back to their goalkeeper (who was very good today) to start another attack. Slightly worried that the last 20 minutes was like the Charlton we all fear to see but other than that the result has to be taken in perspective. Would have taken 10 from 4 at the start of the season. Dont care about Reading, but 3 points on Saturday and this result is more than forgotten. Come on you Reds!
I have seen all the matches this season and Powell just replicated what he has done so far. Bringing on Doherty and Euell and taking off BWP and Hayes. But yesterday, it failed to work and was very frustrating. He seemed to follow a formula that had worked but was pretty pointless yesterday. I thought Hollands was superb yesterday, but have found Stephens to be lacking in the last two matches. I thought he was anonymous yesterday.
