Havn't got a clue if there is any element of truth in this, but if it is true i'm hoping that we are one of the clubs interested in him, along the numerous others.

Whether or not we could make him interested as opposed to the like of liverpool, i have doubts, but never say never.

STEWART DOWNING has turned down the offer of a new contract at Aston Villa.
The Midlanders' player of the year admits he could move on this summer with Liverpool interested.

Downing has two years remaining of his current contract at Villa Park.

And he said: "I know the club are keen for me to extend my contract as I only have two years left on my deal.

"My agent had a recent meeting with our chief executive Paul Faulkner.

He would be a top quality signing, but I fear there would be a bidding war for the lad which would be out of our league.

He wants to play champions League football, he is looking towards Liverpool/Arsenal not Sunderland, unfortunately after the season he has just had he deserves a big club

No chance in hell, he'll only leave Villa for Champions league or Liverpool.

Shame, I'll be absolutely gutted for Da££en Bent if the Villa team disintegrates around him. Young, Downing ... who's next out the door! <whistle>

Until we get into the Euro spots we'll have major problems signing the Downings of the Prem. But how do we get into Europe without them? Gotta have a crack at him and his ilk.

I'd say it's improbable, not impossible.

I'm a huge Downing fan, i'd take him over N'Zog faster than Ashley could polish of a pasty.

You'd imagine so, but maybe the draw of being close to home might hold a bit of weight, and the fact we adored the lad when we had him.

I can't see it, but he'd be a different level signing for us, i'd be inclined to play Ricco left back, him and Downing down that side would be a nightmare.

    Unlikely.

read an article yesterday that Dazzler was trying to convince him to stay rather than go to ManU.

Think it was Young to Man U rather than Downing mate.

Would love Downing like! But you're all right in the fact, he is just on a different level to us at the moment. However like has already been mentioned, he's been here before, he'd be closer to home and if we offered him the right cash.....Perhaps I'm dreaming now.

People are going crazy for Downing this season. He's not THAT good, wouldn't get anywhere near a United, Chelsea, Arsenal squad - he'd be a flop if he did. City might waste loads more millions on him like. Would prefer N'Zogbia, i believe he's a better player than Downing.
