Matches that affect us look like this; Wednesday 2nd May Bolton V Tottenham - If Spuds are on a charge for the 4th or even 3rd spot they have to win this Sunday 6th May Newcastle V Man City - The title can only be sorted out on the last day of the season, best we can hope for is Citeh spank The Toon so that they only need 1 point against us. Aston Villa V Tottenham - We could still do with Villa being dragged into the mire, fingers crossed for another Spuds win Bolton V West Brom - Will the Baggies take their foot off the pedal knowing Woy is off to the England job? We have to hope not and that they either win or at least hold on for a draw QPR V Stoke – The only way we stand a chance is not to get beaten, other results could mean a draw is enough but I wouldn’t be comfortable with anything less than all 3 points Man Utd V Swansea – To take a little pressure off Citeh we have to hope the Swans can do the impossible and turn over Utd at Old Trafford, not at all confident this is possible! Monday 7th May Blackburn V Wigan – Odd one this, part of me wants Wigan to stuff Blackburn to halt their push for 17th spot but I still want Wigan to be in the mix on the last day so maybe a draw would be the best result for QPR Sunday 13th May (or soil your pants day as it should be known) Chelsea V Blackburn – Who knows what frame of mind the Filth will be in for this game? Eyes on other things maybe? We need them to stuff Blackburn, simple as. Norwich V Aston Villa – Could be two bald men fighting over a comb or the end of Villa in the top flight but the Canaries have nothing to play for so I don’t expect any favours Stoke V Bolton – Other results may make this game irrelevant but Stoke need to do the business and sink Bolton Sunderland V Man Utd – Could be crunch time. We will have an ear on this results and news will travel fast if the Black Cats can work a miracle Wigan V Wolves – Who knows, maybe Wolves can drag Wigan down with them on the last game of the season. Wigan have had to wait until this stage so often it must be like déjà vu. Man City V QPR – Could be our last game in the Premiership for a while or go down as one of the biggest shocks of the season if we can win as we’d be the first to do so at the Etihad in this campaign. Put your own scores next to these fixtures and see what you come up with. For me we need 37 points as a minimum and hope Bolton lose every game and Blackburn don't win anything.
That scenario sounds like trying to walk up a greasy slide backwards balancing full pints of beer on your head, nose, each shoulder, elbow and back of hand all at the same time and get to the top without spilling a drop; I've done it, mind, but it's not pretty.
I've gone through these scenarios 100 times in my head but the problem is that we just don't know how it'll pan out. If it all went to plan, we'd all be football pools winners by now (do they still exist?) My dog has a good nose for all things food - i wonder if i can get him to sniff out the results of the next 2 weeks? Maybe i have the next Paul The Octopus living in my front room. Hey, Tibi, come over here.....
everyone's assuming we'll beat stoke and before sunday I'd have fancied us as well. but after watching that shambles I can see us getting a draw at best and in effect handing another prem season to bolton.
I can make it much easier, if Bolton win on Weds, were ****ed. Also a City win and Utd loss will mean it will only go down to the last day technically. Utd arent going to have an 11 goal swing to win the title.
I don't think anyone's assuming we'll beat Stoke; hoping, praying, dreaming yes, but assuming? No, this is QPR.
What we need is this. Forget about Aston Villa their GD is too good. Us to beat Stoke and not to get spanked by Man City by too many goals. Bolton to lose 2 of 3 games. Blackburn to beat Wigan so that Wigan COULD lose against Wolves at home too. As longs we beat Stoke it means even if Blackburn win both games they will have same points but worse GD. Bolton will be the same if they lose two games same points but worse GD. And if Wigan lose both same points but worse GD. Will could finish 16th Worse scenario would be if this all happens and we get spanked by Man City and go down on GD.
Bolton 0-2 Tottenham Newcastle 1-3 Man City Bolton 1-1 West Brom QPR 3-2 Stoke Man Utd 3-0 Swansea Stoke 2-0 Bolton Sunderland 2-2 Man Utd Man City 3-2 QPR We stay up, City win the title, Fergie is in the dressing room moping about Mancini's hypnosis skills and how it gives City the advantage and Bolton will just be sad.
