Life doesn't get better for former player Eddie Johnson - he has failed a fitness test at Mexican first division club Puebla.

Meanwhile Carlos Salcido is enjoying life to the full - his club Tigres have won the Championship, with our boy playing a key role. Officially he's under contract at FFC till 2013, so there could be some cash winging our way.

Nice, shame he didn't work out but he really was rubbish for us most of the time.

EDIT: I was speaking about Salcido, but I suppose that works for both of them!

Bidley, surely you can't put EJ and Salcido in the same boat of failure?

While EJ barely played and was truly poor when he did, Salcido played regularly and was almost as pants virtually every game. IMO they're not far apart.

I agree with Bidley. EJ didn't win us any points and Salcido on the other hands lost us a few!!!

This is left field (no pun intended) but is Salcido better than Riise?

I don't think Salcido was all that bad. He started out badly, but in the second half of the year he was quite reliable. What he lacked in pace he more than made up for in tough tackling ... plenty of would-be wingers trying to get by Salcido found themselves face down with blades of grass poking in their nostrils. IMO, in the second half of last year, left back Salcido was at least as good as right back Baird.

But Riise's better, I think. Riise's not been the great left back I was hoping for, but he (like Salcido) is growing into the role for us.

Riise is marginally better. Some times is out of position too but he is a "pure" left back that when he decides to play the role is fearsome especially going forward.

I think Riise is better too, but he's the lesser of two evils.

I don't see why there is all this hate towards Salcido, true he started out poorly but in my opinion got gradually better as the season went on. I think if he hadn't have gotten homesick he would still be our first choice left back.

Bandit, there is no hate. Just the guy could not cut it. Simple as that. Yes he did some good tackles and a couple of good shots on target... Nothing more than that. Probably was used on a different style of football than the EPL. Similar for lots of other players who might have been brilliant in other leagues but can't play the fast tempo of EPL.

Madness has got it, the pace over here was just too much for him and he couldn't cope. He'd be better off in Italy, IMO. Shame it didn't work out as he had a good pedigree.
