Just seen this comment: Il Messaggero say that their information is that when making the deal, AS Roma insisted on a clause that meant Newcastle United would be committed to paying 22m euros (£17.39m) if he made 10 appearances for United before the end of the season... Looks like there was a significant clause in the Doumbia deal. Guess he willbe free to play now?
That's what happens when you posture and preen throughout the transfer window, think that you are being a clever **** by waiting until the last minute to make a bid, that is then rejected because you haven't given the selling club a chance to replace their striker and then you are forced into a complete panic signing with terms that you would never agree too under 'normal' circumstances............................... but hey, Charnley is 'cheap' right!!!
Didn't he come as a sub against Stoke and did more in the few minutes he was on than the other forwards did all game. And we've barely seen him on the pitch since, just a few minutes against Leicester. I hope we can play him now, and that he's got something in the finishing department.
This type of situation arises due to last minute panic deals, with the club having to agree to clauses that trigger this or that. In order to avoid being committed to something they don't want, the player sits n the bench unproductively. Let's hope he is now unfettered and able to at least be selected if Rafa wants to use him. Hopefully he will bring another dimension up front and know where the goal is.
