This story will drag on until he signs for Arsenal. One thing I've learned is we get signings people are not expecting. Everytime!

We know from Pards that Santon was signed as a right back so Simpson will go... Santon steps up..... Pieters signs on a left back.... Douglas (who I think is a CB by trade) joins as cover and et Voila.....

maybe a bit short at right back for cover but Saylor and Perchinho can play there so jobs a good un.

This lad has looked really good whenever I've watched him on eurosoprt etc. One word of warning would be the lad his well known to have a very hot temper (not uncommon in south american footballers!). The commentators always like to make a barbed comment about it and inevitably bring up the incident where he got banned for 6 games for losing it and started pushing the ref. I don't think he is that bad, just had one of those days.

One thing he'll certainly help with is any aerial threat. Whenever I've watched him he was top notch at dealing with crosses. Think he is trying to gain dutch citizenship too. Could be another dutch international on the books which is never a bad thing! Not really the ball playing back up to Colo you'd expect us to go for but he would be a welcome addition. Tayls could be in for some competition!

Very good CB, would give us an awesome defence next season if we get Pieters as well:

    Santon---Doug---Collo---Pieters

    back up:

    Simpson---Saylor---Willo---Raylor

and Perch covering all positions. Certainly a defensive squad good enough to handle Europe and the league.

Are you a farmer? just read your comment on Vegetarians.

Aliens are taking an interest in farming for some reason????? I think it's us they intend to farm. Let's see what the vegetarians have to say about that.

Think he'd be in straight competition with Saylor. But he'd have to dislodge Saylor, not the other way on because Saylor is top class and had a great season up to his injury.

I'm thinking of starting a baby farm so that if we are invaded by aliens we'll have enough troops to fend them off and send them packing.

Was reading this very article and coming to post it on my Pieters thread from yesterday but you beat me 2 it :(

Sounds good though, if we can get Pieters and Douglas in we would be very comfortable in Def for next season.
My main worry would actually be upfront if we just had Demba and Cisse with only Best and Shola to drag us though the ACoN.
And if Guthrie signs on then we will have 3 good midfielders, Gosling as an unproven talent and a few young guns like Vuckic, Abeid and Richardson to drag us through the season sooooo....

if we get these two all I would really want is replacements for players leaving and 1 CM and a young class CF (maybe on loan in Januray) HTL

From what i have read about him he sounds like a decent prospect, but i can't claim to have seen much. I would add though that i'm always wary of people saying a defender is good and then rating him because he scored. I couldn't care a less if our defenders never score, i want them to be able to defend : Dennis Irwin >>> Roberto Carlos in my opinion!!

Douglas is decent dont know if hes better than the improved Saylor though to be honest and hes not exactly versatile at 6'4/6'5. But on a free, why not.
