Reading some disturbing articles in the press today. According to The Times, AVB has already been interviewed for the post of head Coach/Manager at Spurs so he's in the running. If the possibility of this inept Mourinho wannabe becoming our boss is not bad enough, The Telegraph is claiming that Damien Comolli could make a surprise return to the Lane as Director of Football!

Seriously... has Levy been smoking something? Does Levy really want to take out club backwards?

Love or loath Harry, his record was the best we've had in terms of league finishes for over 20 years. Levy wasn't at the helm back then so why would he even contemplate taking back Comolli and hiring a manager that practically destroyed the dressing confidence at Chelsea and was ousted by his own stupidity. This is ludicrous!

I seriously hope there's no truth in this story. I'll reserve judgement until an official appointment on both fronts has been made but considering Harry and the press are reporting that the club "wants to go in a different direction" I guess this means on several fronts... all seemingly DOWNHILL! <grr>

As many have said the destruction of Spurs would be complete if AVB comes.
Maybe Levy's in the back pocket of the silent Kleptocrat.

I absolutely do not want Comolli, but I would love AVB.

Comolli returning to be DoF?

Levy doesn't want to be lynched - there's more chance of that other tabloid story, Sherwood becoming DoF.

No problem with AVB at all. Given time I think he'd be great. He's the kind of manager that likes to build, and with our new training centre, he's got a chance to do so.

Have to agree legend, I dont want to see Comolli anywhere our club ever again but AVB could be a very shrewd appointment. AVB was treated very harshly by Abramovich FC and forced into the sack by Terry, Fat Frank and Venus Williams, he wasnt given enough time and never had the respect of the players (who are the ones who run Chavski FC).

AVB will have a point to prove and is no doubt a good coach and tactician, something which we need. The only problem I see is he may want to make wholesale changes to our squad, which we dont need imo.

Sorry, but AVB has proved nothing to me. He had some brief success with Porto. Apart from that, his only other experience of top level football management is his disastrous few months at Chavski. Too big a risk, IMO.

So what can and should we do? Instead of voicing our discontent on here can we contact the powers that be at our club and object loudly? I am totally opposed to AVB coming anywhere near and Comolli too. We have to say something.

I'd be very surprised if we see one person on here (who supports spurs) that would actually be in favour of Comolli. - that just can't happen. If anything like that is looking likely, then we should all get together as one on not606, and do as you say!

as for AVB, there seems to be mixed opinions, TMT.

Some say he deserves a chance, others don't want him anywhere near the club.

The board have come out and said they are "going in a different direction". I personally think we'll end up with AVB as our boss, as I don't think Martinez or Moyes back up the statement made by the club. Both good managers, but on a level playing field with redknapp IMO. I certainly wouldn't understand how employing either means "a different direction". However, if we were to employ either of those, I think would be happy with either decision. - Just trying to work out and make sense of what the club have said, that's all.

I think "going in a different direction" just means "we wanted rid of the last bloke, but don't want to speak negatively about him", Roo.

16. That story regarding Comolli actually appeared in The Times (not The Telegraph), which is even more worrying.

It must be a wind-up by some Spurs-hating hack.

The appointment of either Comolli or AVB would be a disaster for our club, but the two together would make us the laughing-stock of world football.

AVB's tactical ineptitude caused Chelsea's early/mid season slump. His insistance on stubbornly playing an old defence on a high line was being undone week in weekout. Its not the fact that JT,FL and co unseated him.....ask yourselves why first, what peed them off in the first place? Its not like they were ganging up to get rid as soon as he walked through the door is it. No, he was rubbish, he doesn't have anywhere near enough experience. How this can be anything approaching a good idea is beyond me.

I think that the board at Chelsea made it far too clear that Villas-Boas was there to usher in a new era, Notso.
He was brought in to play the style that worked for him at Porto and get rid of any of the older players that were unsuited to it.
Unfortunately for him, that included most of the powerful figures in the dressing room.
He didn't have anything like the squad needed to ignore them, totally change the way that the team played and still get results.

Do I think that he's suitable for the job at the moment? He certainly wouldn't be my first choice, by any means.
Do I think that he's a good or a bad coach? Absolutely no idea.
Almost guaranteed success at Porto and doomed from the off at Chelsea.

Well as many keep saying "trust in levy "levy knows best" "he wants what is best for us" and while I don't think as highly of him as some do, i do feel its in his best interests to make us a success BUT i also believe either him (or his advisors) are obsessed with this continental system and for some reason can't learn why it doesn’t work and im dreading avb becoming our manager.

If AVB comes our manager, it will be interesting to see how the fans celebrating arrys departure react as "be careful what you wish for" springs to mind.
