Can someone please kindly explain why Diego Costa can sign and train for Athletico Madrid after the transfer window has closed, but Adrien Silva isn't allowed to train with us? I just don't get it!!

No, he can't but how has he been allowed to sign and train with his new club?

He is still technically a Chelsea player so is under their insurance - he cannot play in any official matches though.

Diego Costa: Atletico Madrid complete deal for Chelsea striker
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41407378
The wording states that he can't play until their transfer ban is over not that he will sign when the window opens. The wording suggests that if there wasn't a transfer ban he'd play?
Normally in these cases the wording is that the club has agreed a deal for the player to sign in January......
Definitely if it was this transfer that was 14 seconds late (transfer ban aside) it would have gone through. FIFA are pushing us round as we aren't a big club

From what I can gather it is because FIFA have not sanctioned the transfer from Portugal to Leicester. His Portuguese club have said as far as they are concerned he is a Leicester player and he is no longer a member of their playing squad. We cannot include him as a member of our playing squad cos the transfer has not received international clearance (acceptance). Therefore, it would appear he is not covered by either clubs insurance policy for their playing squads. As Big Fox says, Costa is still covered by Chelsea insurance. Hopefully, the appeal will allow some way for him to be at least covered by insurance so he can join first team training even if he isnt allowed to play for us until January. Its a complete mess.

Reason why he isn't insured is that is that both our FA and the Portuguese FA have agreed the transfer so Silva is officially not in Sporting's playing squad and is in ours - I'm guessing that the insurance is backed by FIFA or something as that is the only hold up.

Costa is still part of Chelsea's playing squad until Jan so is covered by by Chelsea's insurance - that they have allowed him to train with another club is akin to when we allowed Jeff Schlupp to train with Man Utd during his trial a while back.

For the transfer to be official it has to receive international clearance from FIFA. If it was simply down to the FA and Portuguese FA there would be no problem - it isnt. To move from one country to another it has to be sanctioned by FIFA - it hasnt. Whilst terms between the two clubs were agreed - he is still not a Leicester player because the transfer has not been sanctioned by FIFA. When we announced the transfer - it was stated that it was subject to international clearance - this also hasnt happened. It really is a complete mess. Hopefully FIFA can sort something out for a player that would undoubtedly play a part in their world cup. God only knows what the player is thinking - he hasnt got a clue who he plays for (though I would guess we have unofficially told him he is our player).

Its not double standards. There is no issue with us completing the signing of Adrien Silva the issue is with registration

Athletico cant register Costa because of his registration cant be completed due to the window being shut and their registration ban

Tbf, if you miss the deadline, you miss the deadline. As soon as you start taking special circumstances into it, it sort of misses the point of a deadline...

Maybe it was just a case of poor internet speed delaying the receipt of the documentation. Out here in the sticks the carrier pigeon still wins hands down.
